Leeks often get rust, especially as the weather has been largely dry and in dry raised beds.
If they get it early, the rust can destroy them. Spraying is not very successful.
Later on, it mainly affects the older leaves and these can be stripped away when the leeks are pulled.
The late-develping leaves are usually okay in the cooler autumn weather.

Sometimes the leaves are shortened back at planting butthat shoul have taken place in early summer, and there is no compelling reason to do so in any case.
When should I plant leeks
I have read your advice about where to plant leeks but at what time of the year should I do so. Also is it possible to get starter leeks or would I be better to plant seeds. I don't have a greenhouse but do have a shed that is very light.
