Fastest growth from seed to plant
I want to put a little science project together for school children to test which of the advertised garden "growth products" on sale have the best results. I want to set up the experiment in multiple yoghurt sized pots and get results in hopefully 2-3 weeks. It doesn't matter what a plant I use, just something that will grow quickly - any advice?

Compst normally has enough plant nutrients for 4 to 6 weeks. So you need to use pure peat, which has verys mall amounts and plants will not thrive without feeding. Sweetcorn or radish are quick and suffer shortges quickly.

Nothing ... just shoo them away when you watn to pick it. They will clear off after a while anyway. They are not doing any harm to the sweetcorn.

Sweet corn can be stunted by lack of water but some varieties can be naturally quite short in size, and still give a good crop.
It needs even growing conditions, good soil and plenty of sunshine.

Apart from a few hot days, the weather has been cold and not suiting sweet corn even under a low tunnel as the soil would be getting cold at night. It will probably respond to warm days.
Sweet corn is best raised indoors from seed sown in mid-April and planted out.
When seeds do not come up at all, it is usually bad seed. If you have any left, test a few on damp tissue indoors. If they don't sprout, the seed was dead.
Can sweetcorn be grown in pots as I am running out of space in my veg garden?

Sweet corn would tend to be stunted in pots, unless they are large, 10 litre or more, with lots of good compost, some soil. Watering almost every day and feeding every two weeks. A lot of trouble.
I have started some sweetcorn off in small pots in greenhouse now are 4" tall can i put them in bigger pots and how many can I put in?

Mid-April is the best time to sow sweet corn for planting out in late May, and they can be planted out from small pots.
If the plants are advanced and need more space, pot them up one plant to a pot in a somewhat larger pot.
