drip watering system?

I have a small rectangular patch with only soil in a long deep raised bed at the end, dotted near the patio door will be planters, also in a corner a water feature surrounded by planters and logs. with no outdoor tap and being disabled, can you get a simple thread system kit which could give a slow watering to my garden/patch areas and yet not waste precious water as i like to be eco friendly and all that sort of thing. patiopally, greystones, Co Wicklow Posted: 09/02/2010

There are trickle watering systems available that are very efficient and not wasteful of water and inexpensive, and some garden centres stock them.

Plants to screen a bank

Hi Gerry, I have a steep bank all around the back of our house. I have planted a beech hedge on top of the bank and am now looking for suitable plants or creepers to sow on top that might grow down to screen off the bank and prevent weeds/grasses from taking hold or alternatively something to sow at the bottom that may climb up. The bank is 8 to 10 feed high so apart from about a foot of topsoil on the top most of the rest of the depth is gravelly. Can you recommend something suitable and possibly fast growing. Thanks. The bank would be too steep, too dry and too unstable to grow anything.  You best bet is to plant at ground level in front of the bank, either a hedge or an informal border of shrubs and trees to hide the ground level chnage behind. Any shrubs, hedging or trees of your preference with do.

In fact, your beech hedge might be better at house level ... all it will do on top of the bank is increase its height and create greater emphasis on the bank.
