Strange plant in hedge

My son found a very strange plants I think under my roadside hedge when it broke opened a big puff of smoke came out of it and as he turned it upside down loads more black Powder substance emerged it was quite unusual and have you any idea what that be we were looking for more but I haven't seen any evelyn1979, fermoy , Co Cork Posted: 29/03/2017

It was a puffball fungus, which are common in hedgerows, especially in autumn.
