No fruit on hazel trees

I have two hazel trees, planted side by side. They are growing for 7 years, but I have never had any nuts. This year I see some catkins, but no flowers. Are they too close together? What might I do to get them to fruit? SophieFinn, Killarney, Co Kerry Posted: 30/01/2018

Seven years is still young for fruiting, but flowering has started and fruit setting will eventually follow.

The male and female flowers are carried on the same tree and the wind scatters the pollen from the catkins which are the male flowers.

The female flowers are tiny red flowers, much fewer in number.
