problems with turnips

I planted swede turnips in April and some of them are growing a large stem with a yellow flower. Is this normal.also the turnips seem to be flat underneath unlike other types? johnnymac, foxford, Co Mayo Posted: 11/07/2010

Swede turnips are rounded and usually purple-topped, so it the turnips are flat, they are possibly a mix-up with seed varieties and not the winter swede.

The yellow flowers means they have bolted, which would be unlikely for swedes until after winter, not before.
