Moving roses to new garden
I want to dig up roses that have been growing in my mother in laws garden for the past 30 years and plant them in mine. I have been told they might not survive because they have been too long in the ground and this worries me can you guide me as to how i can move these beautiful roses without causing damage to them.

The best bet is to take cuttings in summer of shoots that have just flowered, placing them in pots with a plastic bag cover. If you can wait for summer that's is best.
If they must be lifted this winter, wait until January and move them then. Roses, even old plants, often move well. Lift as carefully as possible, cutting the tops back hard.
