Apple trees suffer from apple scab disease, especially in the wetter parts of the country such as Donegal. Also wind exposure can be a problem in that area.

Feeding with rich compost or manure will exacerbate the problem.

Control all weeds and grass under the trees. Feed in March each year with fruit fertriliser and spary for apple scab disease.

Improve shelter if you can.

Paint on the trunk is of no benefit.
