crimson sentry maple

this normally beautiful tree is a big disappointment this year. its planted about 5 or 6 years. i dont know if its because of the rain or what but it hasnt leafed up well at all. it seems to have struggled a lot. other acers are doing as well as always. is this one just tempermental? do you think its dying? This maple certainly looks like a tree that has problems at the roots, either the ground is too wet or it has had some damage done by wind rocking. Maples like normal moist soil that drains well and if it is in a spot that is inclined to flood, its roots die back for lack of oxygen, or it may have been wind-rocked and that has caused root damage and the loss of root function.

In either case, there is not much can be done but to allow it to take its chances.
