Just reading a book that says to sow your carrot seed at the end of May or beginning of June. Klaus Laitenberger - Jeaic's mum knows about him - says it help to avoid carrot root fly!!

Moya, carrot root fly cannot fly anything above 12 - 18 inches high. Lucky for me. I have sown them in window boxes which are raised to waist level.

Do you have good results from that? Klaus is saying he has tried a few things and covering the crop/sowing late are what he finds works.

Jactinta I have had problems with carrot root fly -maybe will grow them in window boxes in future.

moya, i cover the carrots with the frost protection fleece & it keeps them away
