Badger's Garden

O.K., it's taken time but I have now uploaded lots of recent photos on progress so far, I have just added to what was already there, so most of them are under "my garden" and "my garden part 2", hope you enjoy, taken 3 years to get this far, but still loads to do.

Nice

Thanks for the nice comments, yes it's been hard work but I have enjoyed it, the structure is coming together but there has been no plans only my interpretation of what I thought the land was telling me.

I have just started to clear more brambles and scrub to plant a little grove of Scotts Pine, almost there, I will post a before and after photo soon.

PeterW PeterW 23 January 2017 21:09:36

look forward to seeing them Badger

Browsing the Membership I came across your Photos and I'm in awe at the amount of work you and your good Lady have carried out and the Natural  surroundings you have to work in...the Stream is a big Plus to have on your Doorstep and the Bridges / Japanese Garden were all wishes of mine in earlier Days...though I still harbour the thoughts of a "Dry River" with an Arched Bridge and Lanterns, not too big a Job...maybe some Day... anyway looking forward to more Photos and stealing a few ideas...

What a project! It looks marvellous, and lovely to see that you also love having wildflowers among your beautiful trees and shrubs. Fabulous garden and it will only get better.

BADGERS ARE STILL HERE

18 January 2017 11:25:21

Hi everyone, just when you thought they had exterminated Badger's, one pops up after some absence.

Yes it's been a long time, some of you will remember me, some probably don't want to, and then of course there's the new one's, we will see how that goes.

Looking at my last entry I had a shock it was way back in 2012, where did that time go ?   Its been a difficult time and a lot has gone on which prevented me from writing, some practical some emotional and of course time to sit and write.

I will post some photos of the garden as it is now, you will see some I posted on my photo page, so that you can see the difference, I have a new dog,, yes I know what I said back in 2012, but when I post a picture of him when he was a pup, you will see how difficult it was to refuse him.

Lozzer Lozzer 18 January 2017 12:42:06

What an absolutely stunning dog! They are alot of work but worth it!

Welcome back ... from a newbie 2014

Jacinta D Jacinta D 18 January 2017 17:33:16

Welcome back, Badger. First photo of doggie is soooooooo adorable. And he's now a fine specimen of a Siberian Husky. Looking forward to hearing more from you. And seeing lots of photos of your garden. It looks a great size.

Badger Badger 18 January 2017 17:51:30

Sorry about the first horrible photo, I clicked on the wrong one, but it is the entrance to my house, I will put new photos in my album as I don't see how to post more then 3 here, so should be uploaded by the weekend.

I have 2.5 acres to look after but there is about 1 acred which is undeveloped, my excuse is it is for wildlife, planted 50 Scots pine this year so creating little blocks of woodland trees, the first block was Corsican pine which are now 7-8' tall, most of my garden is a bog so it is difficult to cutivate and I have lost a lot of garden plants due to it being too wet, but where I can I have planted some shrubs, there are lots of drainage channels which flow with water into the stream which runs through the garden, but the ground conditions are not good, but I try.

Jacinta D Jacinta D 18 January 2017 18:40:10

It sounds like you have things pretty much under control. Big space, lots of work, but lots of exercise and fresh air.

Jackie Jackie 18 January 2017 20:23:31

Welcome back, what a beautiful dog you have!

Hope to see many more journals from you over time!

Scrubber Scrubber 18 January 2017 22:03:29

Welcome back badger. AsI have a boggy area I will read your journals very attentively! I have put in a lot of guelder roses purple loosestrife and Primula japonica so far.

PeterW PeterW 18 January 2017 22:15:30

Welcome back Badger, looking forward to see your garden onow and over the coming year. Also love your new dog.

TerriShoos TerriShoos 20 January 2017 09:30:05

We felt the same after losing our old dog, also Ben. We called him our third kid, he grew up with our sons and it broke our hearts when we lost him. Never again, we said, but then we were walking in Coole Park one day three years later, and suddenly it was no fun without a dog, so we rescued Oscar and he's been our much-loved friend ever since.

Gracedieu Lass Gracedieu Lass 20 January 2017 13:52:47

Welcome back.

Lozzer Lozzer 23 January 2017 13:40:19

Hi Badger I really admire your progress and hard work over the years, such a huge change you have made to your home and garden/land! Can I ask please what is the beautiful pink bloom you have posted a pic of please? Does it need a sheltered spot or is it able for the wind at all? Also, I love that you planted pine, I am dying to plant some at the end of my garden, I notice them all the time in people's gardens now and the structure and beauty all year round is a must-have for me now:-) the bridge in black and red is very striking too, well done on all you have achieved already!

I'm Back

15 October 2012 17:19:02

Hi folks, this little Badger has been hibanating and keeping his head down, as things have been a bit difficult, the Irish govenment is trying to exterminate all Badgers, including me, but hay,  what the hell, life goes on and so does my garden, been very busy developing a bit more, (under orders from her indoors ) We have cut back the scrub picked out all the rocks ( or at least Lola has, God bless her ) and levelled the soil as best we can and sowed No 2 grass seed, its started to show, but it is very slow, won't be cutting it this year, the area is now ripe for some choice trees now.

I have included photo of the "before and after look" and how it is at the moment, all done by hand, ( fair and mighty ) i might add

Sruthain Sruthain 15 October 2012 17:37:08

I was in a similr boat 12 years ago but only had a ploughed field to cope with and not a quarry. I wouldn't want to start again though. You've done great work. We share a common heritage too.

LindaB LindaB 15 October 2012 18:18:47

Great before and after picture, gives you the will to go on!

ladygardener ladygardener 15 October 2012 18:58:54

Brilliant what an enormous amount of work you've done.  Don't let them bully you governments come and go but they've never been able to get rid of badgers.

Disaster ! what a month

16 August 2012 09:58:49

After losing poor old Ben, and by the way, thank you all for your kind words, we are coming to terms with the fact that he has gone, no more dogs though, i could never replace him, and anyway we are now free to do the things that was a bit restrictive in the past.

Just as we were recovering from that we both caught what we thought was food poisioning, but it turned out to be a very, VERY, virilent bug, it laid us out for a whole week, just getting over it and felt like walking around the garden, ( god, the weeds in just a week ) and took the camera to take photos to post here and as i was walking along the edge of the pond slipped on wet bit, and almost fell in the pond, but in the end i got wet trying to fish the camara out of the pond, and yes it was strapped to my wrist, how the hell it came off, heaven knows, but its now ruiened, i only hope that i can still get the photos off the chip.

And just like Scrubber i to am having major problems with the computer, i think it is likely to be signal strengh or possibly the modem.

They say things come in 3s, lucky its not 4s or 5s

I'll post a photo to cheer us all up from earlier in the year.

Kate & Graham Kate & Graham 16 August 2012 10:09:16
