Shrubs seen in Kowloon and TaiPo areas of HK

14 December 2016 15:17:02

Some really nice gardens with lovely specimens.

I like the Loropetalum a lot, Jacinta on here says it is available in Irl and Uk. Theres a mini forest of it laid out in one park. It's super when the blossoms are out.

In the  foreground, that clumpy tufted grass is called " Jade Dragon " in HK , a gardener on site told me. It's a hardy drought resistant plant.

Wonder does anyone have any idea of the purple-ish / violet short border plant right behind  the dragon grass  and in front of the Loropetalum. Will attach a close up shortly.

you will also see a really nice orange/ pink flowered shrub overhanging a fence on a property in Kowloon Tong. Anyone have a name for that?

more pix later ......

Hi Spealadoir. I think the shrub in photo no. 2 is either Bougainvillea, or Campsis.

Thanks Jacinta, I will check them out to see which one it may be.

Hi again Jacinta, from looking online I think you are spot on with the Bougainvillea, colour and appearance and even the way it drapes over walls looks right.

Does it grow in our Irish climate I wonder or would our frosts kill it ?

Many thanks for that assistance.

I will try your advice on posting some pictures and creating albums.

kind regards

Unfortunately Bougainvillea will not survive in our weather. But possibly if it's given some winter protection, probably a bright place in the house would be best. And plenty of feed in Spring.

Looking forward to seeing the photos.
