Paintings,, for Scrubber

21 October 2017 17:38:26

A sketch of the hotel we are staying in, apainting of the view from it and a painting of the restaurant beside it.

Sorry, one is sideways and sketch didn't come out too well.

Jacinta D Jacinta D 21 October 2017 18:54:50

Beautiful, Heather. I didn't realise you were such an accomplished artist.

Elizabeth7 Elizabeth7 21 October 2017 19:24:12

Super work Heather  especially love the sketch. You are lucky to be out of cork this week. Brian has been blowing hard all day and still going strong!

Dick Dick 21 October 2017 20:22:33

Great, Heather. You and Jacinta have the talent. Sorry to hear the bad news in Cork. A little bit of damage was done in my back garden to a few trees by Storm Brian but things will be ok on Monday

fraoch fraoch 21 October 2017 20:32:30

Thanks all. Hope things aren't too bad for you Elizabeth. I'm back to Dublin tomorrow and Cork on Monday.

Great art work, Heather.  Would love to be there!

Jackie Jackie 24 October 2017 09:02:44

You are very talented Heather. Beautiful

Scrubber Scrubber 28 October 2017 22:52:34

Heather I have only just now seen them. Thank you so much. Im honoured. I love the sketch and are those tall trees Lombardy pines. You can feel the warmth in the paintings. And werent you the wise one to skip the storms!

We just called the trees Cypress, don't know if they had a more exact name. The important thing, according to the tutor, was to get them really dark!

Cyclamen growing wild

20 October 2017 13:21:27

I spotted this growing by the side of the road here in Tuscany, I'm on a painting holiday here. Very like hederifolium, but the leaves are pointed.

TheH (Hazel) TheH (Hazel) 20 October 2017 20:34:29

Lovely! Enjoy your holiday!

Dick Dick 20 October 2017 20:44:00

I hope you haven't the stormy weather like we have here, Heather. We have had Hurricane Ophelia, about a week ago and it was bad in your county. Now Storm Brian has arrived. As Hazel said"Enjoy your holiday"

fraoch fraoch 20 October 2017 21:04:44

Thanks to both of you. Weather is lovely here, luckily. Hope storm Brian doesn't do too much damage.

Scrubber Scrubber 20 October 2017 21:19:38

O Heather how lovely for you! Enjoy! Lots of my cyclamen have those pointed leaves and fabulous patterning. Hope we see a painting or two?

Surprise

28 September 2017 20:24:41

I was round at the house today and amazed to see Geranium 'splish-splash ' flowering in spite of having been buried under machinery and dear knows what all summer.

Jacinta D Jacinta D 28 September 2017 20:52:08

Oh, dear, Heather. You're still not back home? That's awful. Hopefully it'll be very soon.

Love that Geranium.

Gracedieu Lass Gracedieu Lass 28 September 2017 21:06:34

It is a great geranium. Hope you will be back soon in your home.

fraoch fraoch 28 September 2017 21:25:20

Thanks to you both. Things are starting to come together but it'll be a few weeks more I think.

TheH (Hazel) TheH (Hazel) 28 September 2017 23:24:03

What a brave little geranium! It's just trying to tell you you'll soon be home again!

Jackie Jackie 29 September 2017 08:06:58

I love this too , have it here. Aren't Geraniums so robust!

Heather I hope you will be back home real soon and enjoying your garden again :)

fraoch fraoch 29 September 2017 09:05:32

Thanks everyone!

Elizabeth7 Elizabeth7 29 September 2017 11:13:38

Heather I do hope the work will be finished soon. You have been soooo patient during this time and the Geranium just popped out to say all the plants are waiting for you!!

fraoch fraoch 29 September 2017 19:20:40

Thanks Elizabeth.

JoanG JoanG 30 September 2017 01:44:03

You've had a long wait Heather and hopefully you will be home soon; it's nice to see a treat like that lovely geranium in the meantime.

Streptcarpus pest or disease, advice please?

08 September 2017 20:06:19

I've had this white sticky stuff on several Cape Primroses this year, and a couple of other house plants too. I've just been wiping it off with damp tissue as best I can, but I d be grateful for any information or advice. Thanks!

Scrubber Scrubber 08 September 2017 20:09:02

Heather Im afraid Im no help but just wanted to sympathise. Hope the more erudite gaden.iers can help!

Jackie Jackie 08 September 2017 20:20:44

No Im useless with houseplants Im afraid. I think I may have even killed the orchids that I bought recently!! time will tell! Hope you get this sorted!

fraoch fraoch 08 September 2017 20:34:50

Thanks anyway!

Gracedieu Lass Gracedieu Lass 08 September 2017 22:12:30

Not any good with house plants, Heather, but I think it might be powdery mildew.

fraoch fraoch 08 September 2017 22:39:20

Thanks, Mary. I wondered about mildew, but wasn't sure if it would be sticky.

sallysarah sallysarah 09 September 2017 09:07:36

I have had sticky problems on my Streps.  Rubbed the stems with neat washing up liquid.   Also washed the pots.  There is now an improvement.

fraoch fraoch 09 September 2017 09:36:51

Thanks Sally, I'll try a bit of washing up liquid. Think I'll wait until they stop flowering to do the pots.

PeterW PeterW 09 September 2017 10:05:52

I'm no expert either but I would be careful incase plant is going to rot off maybe?

fraoch fraoch 09 September 2017 11:11:22

Thanks, Peter, yes I agree, I lost a white one earlier on in the season and so I'm keeping a good eye on them and so far not too bad!

Dick Dick 10 September 2017 19:37:35

Heather, I am lost regarding this. In your nearest DIY like Woodies or garden centre, they should be able to help.I have never grown this plant. Perhaps Benlate which is a fungicide would help. I don't want to say that it has been late. Great win for Cork in the senior Camogie.

fraoch fraoch 10 September 2017 21:52:45

Thanks, Dick. I might try that if washing up liquid doesn't work. Yes, great win today, lucky we have the women!

Pansy "black jack"

07 September 2017 20:41:38

I only sowed the seeds of these in May,, and the first flower appeared a couple of weeks ago. They really are almost black.

JoanG JoanG 07 September 2017 21:26:02

They look like velvet! You do so well with growing from seed, Heather.

Gracedieu Lass Gracedieu Lass 07 September 2017 21:33:08

Beautiful, Heather and as Joan described them like velvet.

Jacinta D Jacinta D 07 September 2017 21:54:32

They're beautiful. I had a black pansy a few years ago called P. 'Molly Sanderson', or something similar.

Scrubber Scrubber 08 September 2017 20:17:43

Very unusual. Is it difficult to place? I think a very dark flower is hard to display to its best advantage, I think a single pot would work nicely. But knowing my oddity Id have to have two whites to balance! Ignore,  the man is mad!

PeterW PeterW 09 September 2017 10:17:43

Love them
