Donegal Garden Trail on Nationwide!

10 January 2018 20:53:45

I'm not going to attempt to put up a picture as I see from my last effort that nothing has changed on this site! ( I always keep hoping!)

Anyway I want to remind you all to watch Nationwide on RTE at 7pm on Friday 12th January when Donegal Garden Trail will be featured!! We are very excited about this as we have long been waiting for RTE to give us some recognition! The program will focus mainly on the east of the County but as the saying goes 'the rising tide lifts all boats' so we are very much looking forward to some good publicity.

Can't wait!

Jackie Jackie 10 January 2018 22:53:18

08 January 2018 13:38:40

Although the weather has been appallingly wet here for many months now it is heartening to see these wonderful little flowers appearing out of frozen soil looking so clean fresh and cheerful!  They are such a joy and inspiration!

May I wish you all a Happy and successful 2018 in your gardens and I look forward to meeting up and renewing friendship with some of you during the year!

Gracedieu Lass Gracedieu Lass 08 January 2018 13:58:01

Best wishes to you for the New Year. It is great to see bulbs pushing through the soil despite the weather. Grey, cold day here in Waterford today.

Jackie Jackie 08 January 2018 23:22:18

Many Happy Returns to you too. What a fabulous sight seeing those beauties. So Spring is definitely on the way.  The weather yesterday and today was bright but chilly today. All breaks down tomorrow with wind and rain!! I don’t mind the frost just hate the rain!!  Hopefully we will meet up during 2018. :)

Jacinta D Jacinta D 09 January 2018 02:28:17

Many Happy Returns, Dorothy. :)

TerriShoos TerriShoos 09 January 2018 16:43:31

Happy New Year, Dorothy. It's lovely to see the bulbs up and the hellebores starting to bud up.

Another year.

21 December 2016 12:16:13

As we have reached the shortest day and another Christmas is just around the corner, I want to take a moment to thank all my friends on this site  for their sharing of their gardens and gardening experiences both good and bad! It can actually be encouraging to know that others also have their failures!

Like many of you I look back on the past year and am thankful for all the pleasure and support that friends have given through the ups and downs of the year and I would take this opportunity to wish you all a peaceful and happy Christmas.

Jacinta D Jacinta D 21 December 2016 12:53:33

Many Happy Returns, Peri. Have a lovely Christmas.

JoanG JoanG 23 December 2016 22:34:37

Lovely thoughts Dorothy.  Hope you have a peaceful and blessed Christmas and thinking of you and Myrtle especially this year, with its sadness as well as joys.  Wishing you all the best for the new year.

Periwinkle Periwinkle 25 December 2016 19:03:37

Thank you all for your kind thoughts.

A favourite spot!

03 November 2016 17:37:46

Like many gardeners I don't sit for too long in the garden in general!  But I have a favourite seat in the east corner of the Lower Garden that is well hidden but gives a great view across the garden at any time of day. Lovely to sit there in the shade of an early summer's morning with a mug of tea and watch the sun waken the garden with its morning rays and if your early enough you can observe the birds as they finish breakfast!

But perhaps my favourite time spent on this seat is at the end of a busy autumn afternoon when there is more time to just sit and enjoy the atmosphere and sense of fulfilment that a garden exudes at what is really harvest time. The garden and the gardener seem to sigh contentedly: "we've done it for another year"!

I took this picture from this seat the other day so thought I'd share it with you all.

Jacinta D Jacinta D 03 November 2016 17:47:51

Magnificent view.

Periwinkle Periwinkle 03 November 2016 17:50:36

Thanks Jacinta,  it really is beautiful in autumn as there is the 'borrowed view' of the hill beyond.

fraoch fraoch 03 November 2016 17:52:25

Lovely view, no wonder it's your favourite place!

roofy roofy 03 November 2016 19:22:44

Thanks for sharing the beautiful view.

Jackie Jackie 03 November 2016 20:00:04

Dorothy your description of those moments in the garden sound absolutely amazing and now with the photo I can see why. I have seen lots of beautiful photos of your garden throughout the year and its one beautiful scene. No wonder you have a little corner that you can sit in and take it all in no matter what the season is! Just stunning, you must be so proud of it and feel so lucky too.

accsean accsean 03 November 2016 23:17:24

I always think we don't take enough time to sit and enjoy the garden, the view from your favourite spot is simply divine.

JoanG JoanG 04 November 2016 09:50:36

Well said Dorothy. There is something special about the light and quiet of the garden on an autumn late afternoon and you have created a beautiful spot there to enjoy it

TheH (Hazel) TheH (Hazel) 05 November 2016 18:08:41

I love your favourite view! I also like to take the odd mug of tea down the garden so I can take it all in! Your description is positively poetic!

Periwinkle Periwinkle 05 November 2016 20:32:49

Thank you all for your kind comments! I probably see my garden through 'rose-tinted glasses'!

For those who may be interested!

On Radio Ulster  FM tomorrow morning Gardener's Corner will be visiting two gardens and mine here at Sea View will be one of them.

As many of you may not be able to pick up the station on radio you can also listen through IPlayer or download as a podcast.

JoanG JoanG 05 August 2016 22:26:40

Thanks Dorothy, I'll be listening through my tv which picks up Radio Ulster perfectly.

Gracedieu Lass Gracedieu Lass 06 August 2016 08:15:57

I was wondering which gardens they were when I heard the announcement at the end of Gardener's World last evening. We will be listening and congratulations Dorothy.

Gracedieu Lass Gracedieu Lass 06 August 2016 09:53:12

What a great programme, such a pity it wasn't television. Dorothy you did a great job bring us on a tour of your garden and the presenters were very good not taking over from your input. I also enjoyed the other garden in Co Down that is open this weekend and if I was living in the area would be off today for a visit. Hopefully, the next time I visit Donegal I will get to see your garden and after the programme it is top of my wish list.

Periwinkle Periwinkle 06 August 2016 10:20:25

Thanks very much , Mary. I am pleased and relieved that it turned out so well! Great publicity for DGT and Donegal! .will look forward to having you in the garden!

JoanG JoanG 06 August 2016 23:22:52

Congratulations Dorothy, the programme came across so well and I enjoyed every minute of listening. It's just made me more determined to visit as soon as I can! Well done. Like Mary, I enjoyed the other garden too.

Periwinkle Periwinkle 07 August 2016 09:28:15

Thank you Joan!  Glad you e N joyed it! And like Mary, you will be very welcome at Sea View.
