Epimedium Lilafee

Epimedium Lilafee

Epimedium Lilafee

This afternoon turned out to be very pleasent and I did a little bit of pottering in the garden for an hour. I was thrilled to see this epimedium in flower. I bought it at Johnstown a year ago and thought I had lost it but got a nice surprise to see it in bloom today. I also discovered some dodecatheon which I also thought had died, now totally the wrong place but alive!

PS I have put up some photos in an album

Pwiseman Pwiseman 14 May 2013 21:18:49

that's a nice little flower, i was looking at your May Album everything looks great, some lovely shots

Jacinta Jacinta 14 May 2013 21:22:25

Any kind of Epimedium is on my wish list at the moment.

That's great that you're getting out and doing a bit now, Myrtle. Long may it last. And hopefully the weather will take a turn for the better soon.

andyf7 andyf7 14 May 2013 21:23:53

Primula Garryard Guinevere

Primula Garryard Guinevere

When Hazel and her sister Elizabeth came to visit my garden last summer they brought me this lovely primula. I am delighted that it is doing so well, the gentle pink of the flower shows up against its dark leaves.

Thank you!

Jacinta Jacinta 04 May 2013 21:10:08

That's very classy looking.

andyf7 andyf7 04 May 2013 21:55:27

lovely primrose enhanced by good camera work.

JoanG JoanG 04 May 2013 22:06:11

That is so pretty Myrtle.  I'm discovering new primulas every day thanks to garden.ie!

TheH (Hazel) TheH (Hazel) 04 May 2013 23:26:17

So happy it is doing well for you! My original one has so far produced only one little flower - Elizabeth's one is also flowering profusely - so it must be a Dub at heart :-)

sallysarah sallysarah 05 May 2013 07:05:37

Another name to put on a plant in my garden - it's such a delightful primula Myrtle.  Sending all good wishes to you!

Dick Dick 12 May 2013 19:48:08

Primulas can be great Myrtle. I hope you are looking as good.

A great week

A great week

A great week

I have been enjoying the garden over the past week. Not doing much but just seeing what is coming up and taking photos. It is really looking good with very little help from me!

I love the way the evening sun seems to light up the plants in these photos

kitty kitty 03 May 2013 18:15:07

the sun does wonders to the plants everything looks gorgous myrtle. i noticed the same yesturday eve especially through burgandy leaves. hope you are keeping well

Jacinta Jacinta 03 May 2013 18:25:42

Very summery looking, Myrtle. I am concentrating more on perennials in the garden these days, and cutting annuals (bought annuals) drastically. And too many  pots means too much wasted time watering.

Mind yourself.

Myrtle Myrtle 03 May 2013 18:27:01

Thanks, Kitty, I am doing well.

Myrtle Myrtle 03 May 2013 18:28:45

Jacinta, we have just got 2 water butts put in so hope that will be a help when the water charges arrive! but I am going to cut down on pots too.

Jacinta Jacinta 03 May 2013 18:35:20

I'm taking a major step by actually giving away a lot of my smaller pots. They require much more frequent watering, and also take up too much space.

Rachel Rachel 03 May 2013 19:18:40

Your garden looks fabulous, Myrtle. So many soft colours and nice shadows. It's not your usual summer zingy self ;-)

Dick Dick 03 May 2013 19:24:08

Your garden looks good Myrtle. I hope you are progressing yourself.

Eilish Eilish 03 May 2013 19:30:58

Some lovely colours in your garden Myrtle.  Great photos.  Glad to hear you are doing well.

Pwiseman Pwiseman 03 May 2013 20:29:11

Pure Class ;-))

JoanG JoanG 03 May 2013 21:34:49

Lovely photos Myrtle, your planting looks beautiful in the soft evening light.  Did you plant those tulips last autumn or do they come up every year?  Glad to hear you're doing well, best wishes.

andyf7 andyf7 03 May 2013 22:11:58

looks like mid summer, beautiful summer colour scene.

sallysarah sallysarah 04 May 2013 08:55:52

Great pictures there and I spy a lovely blue clematis on the pergola - is it an Alpina?

Myrtle Myrtle 04 May 2013 19:58:01

Sally, it is Clematis macropetala Maidwell Hall. It is a lovely one and is doing well for me and doesnt need cutting back only if it gets too big which wont be for a long time.

Myrtle Myrtle 04 May 2013 19:59:12

Thanks for all your comments. Joan, some of the tulips were in since the previous year and some put in new in the autumn.

Keego Keego 04 May 2013 21:52:05

Myrtle lovely pictures the garden is looking really great. The part time gardeners are doing a good job you should keep them, I am so glad to hear you are doing well

TheH (Hazel) TheH (Hazel) 04 May 2013 23:01:41

Your garden is looking fabulous - having a bit of sunshine has to be doing you and your garden a lot of good!

Is it a colour clash or a C Lloyd moment?

Is it a colour clash or a C Lloyd moment?

Is it a colour clash or a C Lloyd moment?

What a beautiful morning today, blue skies and sunshine. A lot of my tulips opened but I had to laugh at where I had planted some colours! But there is something nice about about being made laugh by your plants :D)

Jacinta Jacinta 20 April 2013 22:05:46

Can't see any 'clash' there, Myrtle. Mother Nature doesn't decipher where she puts what colours.

Clara Clara 20 April 2013 22:07:15

Love the colours and love the leaves of the Berginia!.

Moya Moya 20 April 2013 22:24:20

I think the odd 'clash' just livens things up Myrtle.

Periwinkle Periwinkle 20 April 2013 22:31:45

I say it all looks very cheerful and spring-like!

fran m fran m 20 April 2013 22:41:08

Ron needs to move the Berginia 4 inches to the left, ant it will be perfect................

I can nearly hear his response LOL

Jackie Jackie 20 April 2013 22:44:23

No they look great together. Wonderful plants :)

Ladybird Ladybird 20 April 2013 22:53:45

The dark leaves blend it all together!

ladygardener ladygardener 20 April 2013 23:03:43

The tulip is really a fab colour

Rachel Rachel 20 April 2013 23:04:19

In spring 'spring rules' apply!

kitty kitty 20 April 2013 23:25:21

nothing wrong with that myrtle looks gorgous, never worry to much about clashing to be honest primula bullyana has a mix of orange and pink and it looks perfect

Keego Keego 21 April 2013 00:03:16

What a great Orange Tulip I love it with the purple leaves

andyf7 andyf7 21 April 2013 00:23:44

have to go with all comments, it looks fab as is.

TinaJ TinaJ 21 April 2013 07:19:54

I love the orange tulip with the purple leaves of the bergenia

sallysarah sallysarah 21 April 2013 08:40:08

A wonderful pick-me-up combination there Myrtle.  I've just spotted your hosta in the top left hand corner - a lot of growth so early on - mine are just peeping 2 inches out of the ground!!!

Myrtle Myrtle 21 April 2013 18:49:04

Sally, it has grown that much in the past week, must put some slug pellets round it before its ruined.

Fran, I'll let you tell him that!

Some of you mentioned orange tulip and I can see from the photo how you think that but in reality it is more red!

But I think Jacinta is right, we are prejudiced by our idea of fashion and taste and maybe miss the pleasure of what occurs naturally.

Thank you all for your comments.

Mairin Mairin 21 April 2013 22:30:49

I like that combination too.  Would not object to that in my garden.

JoanG JoanG 22 April 2013 00:28:31

Agree with the others, it's a nice combination Myrtle.  And your bergenia leaves are so healthy ... very envious I am!

TheH (Hazel) TheH (Hazel) 22 April 2013 00:43:04

Myrtle - you are such a perfectionist LOL - they look splendid!!!!

Scrubber Scrubber 29 April 2013 21:22:59

Well snap! The autumn before last I planted Thalia daffs in the Scrub. They came up as red tulips! and looked very well among the white thalia. This year they have done it again so hopefully it will be a recurring source of amusement! And no doubt will some time be extremely fashinable! Whats a C L oh Ive just got it the dear irascible Christopher!

So forgetful!

20 April 2013 21:46:24
So forgetful!

So forgetful!

Ladybird gave me this lovely plant when she visited recently and I thought I would put it at the door step during the day to enjoy the sun and REMEMBER to bring it in at night. Well you guessed it, I forgot it and there was a touch of frost but I was very relieved that it was perfectly fine when I checked it in the morning :)

Thank you, Ruth I hope I will keep it going for the summer.

Clara Clara 20 April 2013 21:51:09

Love the colour ...nice prezzie.

Jacinta Jacinta 20 April 2013 22:06:41

Moya Moya 20 April 2013 22:21:18

Glad it survived the frost Myrtle.

fran m fran m 20 April 2013 22:37:57

Great colour

Jackie Jackie 20 April 2013 22:42:28

Myrtle I bought one of these Senetti two weeks ago in Lidl and planted it out in the garden straight away  and not a bother on it. Even with those frosty nights and mad stormy ones too :) still looking good.

Rachel Rachel 20 April 2013 23:03:20

Jacinta knows all the names. Lovely one and it obviously loves you too :)

Ladybird Ladybird 20 April 2013 23:04:01

Oh l saw your other Journal first lol, enjoy it and we thought your garden looked great, so full of colour, we are a few weeks behind here in the midlands.

andyf7 andyf7 21 April 2013 00:19:12

lovely present for the entire summer, frost permitting :-).

JoanG JoanG 22 April 2013 01:04:44

It's looking great Myrtle.  My next door neighbour had one outside her front door for over 18 months and it never stopped flowering in all that time.
