Welcome and plant swap

04 January 2017 12:39:59

Thank you everyone for the kind welcome, I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone on Saturday. I'm hoping to create a white border this year and I have plenty of plants picked out from Johnstown not to mention the plant swap ??

In relation to the plant swap do you bring all the plants on your list even if they haven't been booked? I have multiples of some and won't pot them up unless requested. I was thinking one of each? Any advice from the seasoned members would be greatly appreciated ??

Looking forward to meeting you all

Geraldine ??????????

Dear Geraldine,

As a seasoned member-what a lovely phrase- It makes me feel like a branch off a gnarled apple tree! and one who never gets around to bringing plants to the swop usually because I leave it too late and the ground is rock hard but mostly because I am the essence of indolence-but then I dont usually ask for plants either so that salves my conscience......where was I? Yes do bring whatever plants you have. They will be snatched up and hugely appreciated. It is really very good of you to contribute in the first year. Fran ( a very very seasoned member-think fossilised forest!) told me that as I expanded my garden I would have more plants to share, To my shame I did and I have.nt! The plant swop is great fun and the Kristkindle is a lot of laughs and nice surprises but the real joy is in meeting up with old and making new friends, Welcome to garden,ie I am sure you will enjoy it, Scrubber,

Gerby Gerby 04 January 2017 14:42:01

What a lovely response (and few laughs) I'm delighted to notice that us gardeners have a great sense of humour, lord knows anyone who can fill a car, inside too, I've been known to have plants sticking out open windows, must have a sense of humour hehe

so out I'll go and continue potting up -

Thanks Scrubber

A big welcome to the site from me too, Geraldine. I hope you really enjoy your first of many get-togethers.

I'd love to see some photos of your garden if possible.

Moya Moya 04 January 2017 17:31:32

Geraldine, people usually only bring the ones that are bagsed because of space to carry them and time to prepare them etc. Of course, if you bring extra you will probably get rid of them but you do not want to be hauling them up and the road and home again. If you request a few plants yourself you might be laden down and the car could be bumping off the road on the way home - LOL.

Anyhow, as Hazel has reminded us put the name of the plant, your name and the person you are giving it to's name of the label - otherwise chaos reigns - well, it pretty much reigns anyhow..but in a good way....it is great fun.

Myrtle Myrtle 04 January 2017 18:16:28

Geraldine, I agree with Moya ( sorry Scrubber!) Only pot up what people ask for, there is enough work in that!

Gerby Gerby 04 January 2017 18:59:24

Thanks Moyà and Myrtle I think it will be a mix of both, so I'll have a few extra if anyone wants. I have booked some plants and I might get some in Johnstown, I'm setting up a white border and they have a great selection. I guess I dont Make things easy for myself hehe but will be worth it when summer comes.

See you all Saturday

Geraldine

Hi Geraldine, looking forward to meeting you too on Saturday, its a great day. I too agree with the ladies, sorry Peter lol,

As regards what Johnstown has!!! well I NEVER leave empty handed....I have already a couple of plants to pick up that I ordered the other night, plus I love nothing more than going around afterward, or even beforehand, to pick what I want. I always ask for vouchers from my loved ones for CHristmas for Johnstown! Great idea

I am putting up a journal with my swaps if you see anything you like just let me know ok!

See you Saturday!

Moya Moya 04 January 2017 21:39:19

My friend Brid will take any plants left over so I know you will get rid of them! lol

Gerby Gerby 04 January 2017 22:47:13

Great Moya I will pot up some extra!

We usually bring whatever we have, each year somebody has been collecting spare plants for a good cause, a community garden or something. They always find homes. And yes, we do all go home with a gornaing car. One year we almost had to drive with our heads out the windows because of the tree branches in our ears - not easy all the way to Clare! Looking forward to meeting you.

TerriShoos TerriShoos 05 January 2017 08:36:43

PS I have a pretty white geranium that I'll bring you a slip of, plus a very pale blue almost-white veronica.

Gerby Gerby 05 January 2017 11:17:18
