I am a spring flower :)

10 January 2012 13:51:43
i know , i know i've done it again and completely neglected my journal all year and then popped in again at spring!! ... but i have been quietly visiting , truth is i have been too jealous to  post because i have been toying with the idea of moving house since last year and so did no new planting in the garden all year which was hard:( and seeing everyone else's new planting i was feeling glum .. but i can't resist the promise of spring and when i spotted my first hellebore and daff this morning i just had to come on and announce their arrival !! ... moving is still a possibility so i am looking at things now and realising it may be the last spring i see  them bloom but on the up side what gardener can resist a brand new canvas?? .. earrach shona daoibh :))

I know exactly what you mean having moved house 2 years ago. It can be tough but there are advantages to starting over with a new garden.

Welcome back and what nicer way to return than with the announcing of hellebores!

TheH (Hazel) TheH (Hazel) 10 January 2012 17:41:27

Have you thought of putting your favourite plants in pots in case the move does happen? It might help you to keep your enthusiasm for the garden in the meantime - and don't forget that a well-kept garden is a great sellling point with a house ......

lynda lynda 10 January 2012 23:52:45

that might get dangerous Hazel, sure they're all my favourites!!

"For One Season Only"!!

26 March 2011 17:54:26

loaded up some photos i took today and realised i only seem to put some up in spring??!! i'll have to remember to do some for the other seasons this year!!

anyhow few hours in the garden today - lovely - got some more of it tidied up but only half way round yet ... still a bit to do .... a few loses due to winter snow , starting to lose hope for my pittosporum hedge out front :(

I think the reason we are inclined to take so many photos of the garden in spring is we are so excited to see colour again:) love the little primula photo 13.

Thanks for that, must remember next week.

where is the sun??

25 February 2011 23:23:49
been away most of the mid-term, got back last night, opened up the blinds this morning and what a thrill to see the forsythia blooming and some little narcissi - cant remember which variety but they are real SUPER HEROES!! they live in the shadiest, boggiest part of the garden but are fabulous every year. but when out looking at them today i remember taking photos of them every year in lovely sunshine and i just thought it feels like we've had no sun this spring :( has it been unusually dull or is my memory gone wonky??  collected box of bulbs ordered so hopefully get them sorted on sunday.  heaps to do in the garden but snowed under with college projects at the moment so frustration frustration frustration!! thank god mammy nature looks after most things when my heads stuck in the computer...
Dick Dick 26 March 2011 19:15:02

lynda, Forsythia has been great this year, I would say the best for a long time. Where is the sun you say. I think it is the sunniest spring we have had for a long time.

lynda lynda 26 March 2011 21:35:16

you're right Dick, i don't think it has stopped shining since  i asked the question!! , i know what to do now if it gets dull again

28 January 2011 22:28:40
looking forward to getting out in the garden tomorrow, hope its a nice day , lots of bulbs starting to poke through and the best thing is i've completely forgotten what i've planted where so they'll all be lovely surprises! noticed my magnolia is starting to stir too. decided i wouldn't plant any seeds this year .. i never seem to have the time to look after them all properly.... and then i went and bought two packets the other day ... it must be an illness !!:)
TheH (Hazel) TheH (Hazel) 28 January 2011 22:30:16

I have that illness too - or is it an addiction?

Jacinta D Jacinta D 28 January 2011 22:34:27

It's highly contagious.

lynda lynda 28 January 2011 22:53:53

good i'm not the only one afflicted so ... guess the only cure is to go out and buy some seed trays and compost.....

Myrtle Myrtle 28 January 2011 23:10:15

then its checking everyday to see have they come up!

Jacinta D Jacinta D 29 January 2011 10:22:34

And then to see if they have collapsed.

Cloncaw Cloncaw 29 January 2011 15:11:16

Good luck with the garden plans including the seeds
