Gismo1981's Garden

Gismo1981's Garden

The Patio has been completed and the new grass is well up, pity about the dock leaves but they too will be taken in hand. Painted the garden shed (the teenchy garden shed I might ad) a nice blue colour to brigthen it up, who said it has to be an eyesore.

I have gone for a tropical look around the pond, lots of green foilage and white, red and orange flowers. Am thinking of maybe planting some muscari bulbs under the shelter of the gunnera in the autumn.

The weather has been pretty scattered but cant complain as its helping the new grass come up.

Feel like Mary Poppins with all this wind

05 January 2012 11:29:14

Hello everyone, havent been online in ages or out in the garden much to be honest.  Things very busy at home and my dad was back in hospital all over Christmas.

The wind has been shocking the last few days. I got up this morning to part of my garden fence falling down. Not great news for Benji (my dog) or the poor plants beneath it. Will try add a picture later.

The bulbs out the front are coming up now, finally Spring is near. I didnt have the heart to cut down the sunflowers as the bluetits have been feasting on them over the Winter.

Hope to fence off part of the garden for Isobel this year to let her play in. Thinking of planting a few sunflowers and nasturtiams to have a bit of colour for her. Has anyone any suggestions for some Summer Colour and of course child friendly plants.

Wishing you all health and green fingers in 2012.

This is kind of related to gardening as they have a scarecrow competition. It was well worth the visit, the scarecrows were excellent and they keep their town immaculate.

Going to upload a few of the scarecrow pictures for anyone interested.

Elizabeth7 Elizabeth7 14 August 2011 18:20:59

Love to see them please.

Jacinta D Jacinta D 14 August 2011 18:37:22

cool scarecrows, isobel very cute.

That's funny.  As a recent judge for a children's fancy dress, a role which I took very seriously, I'd love to know what criteria the judges used to decide the winner for example was it entertainment value or a more scientific evaluation of what scares crows.

Like Wally

They were trying for a World record number of Wally's at Cork Midsummer festival so he may have gone travelling

Only flower in my garden

13 August 2011 16:01:15

There is only one flower in my garden at the moment and she is in full bloom :O)

The sunflowers are thriving as there the only ones I really concentrated on.

My crocosmia and lilies in the garden are showing how strong they are, pushing through the weeds.

Were looking at the moment of changing a few things around in the garden as next Summer Isobel will be running about please god.

Dont be on this or in the garden half as much as I like but Isobel will never be this small again so I just enjoy every minute with her.

I've even moved over to the dark side and used weedkiller on the patio area last week, it was a total mess and  I had tried to keep on top of it.

So what am I missing, are we all talking about bulbs again. Going to have a poke around the journals now and see how your all keeping.

Michelle finn Michelle finn 13 August 2011 16:57:46

ah god bless her siobhan she is gorgous. you are so right to spend as much time as you can with her, the garden can wait. if i lived near you i would do it for you. even isobel loves the sunflower too. being a mum is a full time job.

Jacinta D Jacinta D 13 August 2011 16:58:50

Good to see you lavishing ALL your attention on Isobel. They grow up all too quickly. Just think, next year she will be 'dead-heading' all the flowers you don't want her to. LOL Just like wee Davey. When he sees me coming, he tries to stick the flowers back on. They learn so quickly.  :)

Isobel is so adorable and has really shot up. Enjoy her!

corktony corktony 13 August 2011 18:29:39

My tall sunflowers are yet to show their face.

The ones that my Izzy sowed  - teddy bear and irish Eyes- are in flower and she is proud of them but too easily distracted.

Although we were at the market in Coal Quay this morning and had bought a bunch of wildflowers to bring home and she managed to get her photo taken for the Echo this evening so Siobhan enjoy her while she doesn't talk back. In four years time she could lavishing her charm on the photographers

rosburke rosburke 13 August 2011 19:42:06

A little bit done............. lots to do

20 May 2011 11:28:57

Grabbing a half hour here and there to try keep some shape on the garden. Tackled the dirty corner and put down some plastic and stone chips to brighten it up. Then repotted one of my Rhodendron's into one of the giant flower pots I have. It looks lovely and there was even enough of the rope light in the garden to put around it so it looks lovely at night time.

My dad shared some of the bulbs and wildflower mix he got this year as he knew I wasnt going to be buying too much. I have to admit they are not long gone into the ground and some of them had sprouted oops !!!

I decided to concentrate on my sunflowers this year, have planted for types including Kong. They all came up which was great, I have some in the back long flower bed and a few out the front between the front door and bay window.

The hedging is coming along nicely. I am half thinking of getting in someone for an hour or two to do a big weed and clean up on the garden and then I might be able to keep on top of things. The pond area is like a wildlife sanctuary at the moment with nettles and dock leaves.

Jacinta D Jacinta D 20 May 2011 13:33:43

Good to see you are keeping busy, both inside and out. Welcome back, kiddo. Enjoy the summer. And most of all, enjoy your little princess! They grow up too quickly.

Cloncaw Cloncaw 20 May 2011 13:39:33

Nice to hear what's happening it's hard to get time for everything but little bit now and again it'll get sorted especially if the weather improves agree with Jacinta in that they grow up fast but in no time she'll be out helping in the garden.

unagrant unagrant 20 May 2011 17:06:43

Enjoy your garden with your little Princess

Siobhan welcome back as you've no doubt found out kids have a way of using up all your spare time :-) The pot in the pic looks amazing how do you get it to stay sideways?   time to get out in the garden with a bouncer or buggy

MartinB MartinB 20 May 2011 23:36:45

Cecil Rhodes's dying words were 'so much to do... so little done'. It is a bit like your title, happy gardening Siobhan

Johnplotman Johnplotman 22 May 2011 10:21:19

Good luck with all your garden plans,Gismo.

I am the part owner of some hedging !!!

30 March 2011 14:26:51

Well since I was online, Paul purchased some red robin hedging and its planted along the back fence (promise I will put up a picture soon).  The picture is of me and Isobel (5 months next week !!!) out admiring the hedging before Paul planted it. As Paul took the picture he forgot to take the hedging which was for my journal, men eh !! ha ha

Ah I cant give out he has done a nice job on it and I'm sure it'll be lovely once it takes off. Was bit jealous to see him out digging away but I will get some time if the weather keeps up. Going to plant a few sunflower seeds this year no point going too mad.  Have to beat my dad and grow a bigger one than his, thats my goal.

AGGHHH for some reason cant get the photo to turn the right way around. I miss my old laptop :O(

Gracedieu Lass Gracedieu Lass 30 March 2011 14:33:52

Yea Paddy!  :)

Hi Gismo. Gosh, doesn't time fly when you're having fun. Isobel will be out helping you in no time at all.

Congratulations Gismo!! I feel like such a plank, I hadn't been reading all the journals for ages and didn't realise you were even pregnant. My heart felt congrats to you and Paul, she is Beautiful!! .... Janette

Rachel Rachel 30 March 2011 17:47:50

Now, Siobhan, only us old fogies get away with putting photos in sideways! Robinia hedging is lovely. I think you put up a photo of a spectacular hedge somewhere near your place of work a while back...

Cloncaw Cloncaw 30 March 2011 17:51:01

Gorgeous girl and you too make the most of time with her because before you know it time has flown on and they're leaving the nest, great that Paul's got the garden bug as well.
