30th July 2009

Area at bottom of garden very overgrown so going to convert part of this into veggie garden and also put up chicken coup and run.... Fencing at moment (between showers) for the new area.. have designed the run and will build myself.. excited about this as some years ago I had a large duck pond and six ducks which gave me hours of fun and reward... but for now its the spade work to prepare it all.... Have gone to look at a few different layouts with other poultry people for tips and have decided to build a moveable run and house for birds.   Have to watch the vegetables and fruit!!!

15th September 2009

well run almost complete for hens.... the raised beds for vegetables in place and paths laid out with fibre around beds.   Stone has arrived to complete this patch and hope to spread tomorrow.   Up to this I have focused on building a border around the entire garden but as that is now done , the really exciting part of filling in with colourful beds,  the practical part i.e the veggie bed  and hopefully a pond with marsh plants will follow successfully.

Bark

13th July, 2009...Having difficulty with new area where I  spread bark.   Plants are not thriving and in one or two cases dying... have been told that some plants dislike bark... concerned as i have replaced two plants and these may be lost also.

Weather good for me as I have planted some new shrubs and rain saves the watering can!!

Where did you get the bark? Bark chip has to be left for about 6 months before spreading on your garden otherwise it will kill your plants.
