Another update

06 November 2017 14:43:34

Hi all,

Just a quick update,

We've made a lot of progress on the new site over the last few weeks. I would hope that we would be going into beta testing with it certainly before Christmas.

The new site is faster, easier to use, and can be accessed on mobile/tablets etc.

Bear with us.....

Gracedieu Lass Gracedieu Lass 06 November 2017 16:02:04

Looking forward to the improvements, Craig and thanks for keeping us up to date on the work.

Jackie Jackie 06 November 2017 19:05:27

Wonderful news........it should be a huge improvement and hopefully it will target some new members and bring back the ones who have gone. Thanks Craig for the updates!

Scrubber Scrubber 06 November 2017 20:07:37

Thank you Craig. That is very good news. Look forward to it.

Jacinta D Jacinta D 06 November 2017 21:41:09

That's the best news I've heard in a really long time. Thanks, Craig.

PeterW PeterW 07 November 2017 08:05:02

Great news looking forward to it

fraoch fraoch 07 November 2017 19:24:35

Thanks,Craig. Maybe they should feature it in the magazine to try to attract people back.

JoanG JoanG 07 November 2017 20:54:04

Great news and looking forward to it.  I agree with Fraoch about highlighting it in the magazine. Thanks Craig.

Good luck with the Beta testing! If you need "real" members to help with the testing just ask :-)

CraigK CraigK 08 November 2017 15:28:24

Funny you should say that Hazel, closer to the time we MAY need some beta testers. I'll put a post up at the time.

Jackie Jackie 08 November 2017 19:29:58

Oooooh excellent......just let us know and I am sure you will have lots of takers! Sounds very exciting!

TerriShoos TerriShoos 12 November 2017 15:19:52

Oh Craig I owe you an apology - I have just tried to upload an album and got very cross that it still isn't working! I'll be so glad when it's all up and running again. :)

Jackie Jackie 14 November 2017 07:20:07

Hi Craig, when the new site is up and running will our previous journals still be available? I would hate to lose those as they are a record of how our, well definitely mine, gardens have evolved over the years. If they were to disappear, would it be possible to have a copy of those journals beforehand? I don't mind if there was a small charge to do that but I would love to be able to hold on to them. Thanks

CraigK CraigK 14 November 2017 07:40:05

Hi Jackie

I'm not sure about that question. What I'd suggest now is that you start saving copies to your computer or device, by either copying and pasting, print screening or printing as a pdf, depending on your needs.

TheH (Hazel) TheH (Hazel) 14 November 2017 18:03:36

Oh Dear Craig! That is a very big task for people who have been on the site for many years and posting regularly! Each journal has to be copied separately so that the comments are included - this is often the most valuable part of the Journal. Would it not be possible to keep the existing information accessible as an archive when the new site comes onstream? I have been on the site since 2009 but there are many members who joined before me!

Jackie Jackie 14 November 2017 18:32:53

It would be such a shame to lose them. They are a great source of information to everyonenit just the person who wrote the journal. It’s what the site is all about. Our blogs so to speak!! If it disappears I will be gutted. I do remember Gerry saying these journals are stored. Surely there must be a way to get some form of copy from the site.

Update on Garden.ie

27 July 2017 16:12:46

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all your patience whilst we go through a period of change on Garden.ie. As you were aware, there was some instability and the website was down for a time. It seems to be running smoothly now and hopefully it stays like this for the last few weeks of its current life.

The good news is that over the next few weeks/months (I'm not even going to jinx it by specifing any time frame) we will be rolling out a brand new Garden.ie - A site which we think will be much more reflective and engaging for everybody concerned.

This iteration of Garden.ie was ahead of its time when it launched back in 2007/8 but technology has moved on and this iteration has slowly fallen behind.

We have a great team working behind the scenes and things like uploading photos, iOS compatability, all simple things will be working and working well. There's also going to be much needed changes in the way things are set up.

We appreciate all of the support and messages we've received here and on facebook over the last few weeks, and we hope you'll bear with us with the inevitable teeething problems as we take Garden.ie onto it's next chapter.

If anyone has any direct queries, It's best to email myself or my colleague Kim at info@garden.ie

Thanks

Craig

Great to hear that the site will continue. Thank you so much for letting us know what is going on.

fraoch fraoch 27 July 2017 18:52:43

Great news, hope all works out well.

Thanks for the update, Craig. Much appreciated.

JoanG JoanG 27 July 2017 21:28:11

Great news, thanks Craig.  Through this site I have learned so much about gardening, enjoyed sharing experiences, help and advice and, above all, made some wonderful friends.  So delighted to know that the site will continue and be upgraded.  Thanks for all your work (and the rest of the team) on our behalf.

DeclanTipp DeclanTipp 27 July 2017 22:41:36

Thanks Craig . Personally I would like to see iOS compatibility as I seldom use my laptop now and the iPhone is used for everything. As you know there are many issues with iPhone when using current site

Fleurette Fleurette 27 July 2017 23:46:46

Such good news, Craig.  I am very much looking forward to the changes that are coming along.  It had becme rather difficult and dispiriting.  As I utterly refuse to have dealings with FB., I am indeed looking forward to being able to upload an album from my Mac. I so much enjoy being part of the ".ie family of gardeners" .  Thank you for the hard work you are puting in.

Mary B Mary B 28 July 2017 00:00:57

Great news, thank-you!

LindaB LindaB 28 July 2017 09:41:35

Thanks Craig, have made a lot of friends here, would hate to lose them!

Jackie Jackie 29 July 2017 00:13:42

Thanks Craig for the update. I'm really looking forward to seeing the new site. It's been hard trying to keep upbeat and post journals at times when you think no one is listening nor heeding us. But things are finally looking up. I too have learned so much and met some terrific people here. I want that to continue. And I will continue to support the site when it all changes for the better :) Let's hope its sooner rather than later as I'm eager to post my monthly albums but they won't load. Anyway onwards and upwards and thanks again!! ;)

Jacinta D Jacinta D 29 July 2017 08:40:31

Thanks, Craig. That's music to my ears. I agree with Jackie in that you'd wonder to yourself why would you bother creating a journal when you think there's nobody out there.

But, one question please. If there is going to be a new site, will all of our photo albums HERE be gone forever?  Or will they automatically be transferred to the new site?

CraigK CraigK 31 July 2017 08:21:37

Hi DeclanFromTipp: Yes, iOS compatability will definitely come with the new site.

Hi Jackie: Yes, I agree that we as a team need to communicate more, we see everything (that sounds awfully big brother! It's not meant to be) but we need to get better at that.

Hi Jacinta: I can't give any promises either way at this stage. All I would say is as with any site, if there are any photos you want to keep, save them to your hard drive or dropbox etc. (just right click and press save image as).

Scheduled downtime
