Amaryllis 12.3.13

Amaryllis 12.3.13

I was telling some of you about rescuing an Amaryllis Bulb from my daughter after Christmas so this is it in all its glory to-day.

Jackie Jackie 12 March 2013 18:25:21

Scrubber Scrubber 12 March 2013 19:25:39

Thats a real Zinger-I just noticed a little tip of green coming out of one ladygardener gave me , very generously two yearsago- gave Anna - so Im hoping to have a similar display!

Lìga Lìga 12 March 2013 20:29:32

Wow,so many flowers,it is really thankfull to you :)

Ladybird Ladybird 12 March 2013 21:56:48

Dahlia and Fran, there are three stems but the third has no flowers yet, just a bud! How long will it flower for? Scrubber, you will have an even better display.

Thank you Jackie and Liga!

Jacinta Jacinta 13 March 2013 09:07:08

Motivation

It's amazing how a get to-gether can motivate you. I cant remember ever spending much time in the garden this time of the year.  On Monday l spent a few hours re digging the edgeing, this is something that had been on my mind for a while as there was no space between the stones and the grass.  It was very cold but l wasn't long warming up.

Then on Tuesday Henry murdered some of the Pyracantha on the wall, it had not been cut back for a few years only a trim. It looks bare but hopefully it wont be too long before it fills out. As you can see from the white spots on the photographs it is raining here at the moment.

Hoeys Hoeys 16 January 2013 15:53:17

it is so true.

Jacinta Jacinta 16 January 2013 17:39:30

I wish I had the time to be motivated in the garden. I'll have to re-organize my weekend commitments too!

Your garden is sooo neat, Ruth.

fraoch fraoch 16 January 2013 19:05:18

Yes, that's some edge you have!

Biddy Biddy 16 January 2013 19:06:40

well Ladybird, great to hear you are motivated. I am still waiting for my spring step to happen!!! last year I planted my earlies in tunnel on 19th Jan... so well done on the lovely work you have done.

Jacinta you are a  busy women, with all the beautiful paintings you have done, work and garden.  by the way thanks for bringing home John. was great to have another car to bring home the goodies. otherwise myself and Nuala would have been walking home!

Jacinta Jacinta 16 January 2013 19:11:41

A very nice chap, Biddy. It was our pleasure.

Myrtle Myrtle 16 January 2013 19:58:48

Gosh Ruth, you did a great job on the edges, and that pyracantha will look great trained against the wall, Henry.

Clara Clara 16 January 2013 20:14:17

You were busy Ruth .The edge looks perfect,  and well done Henry cutting back.

The only gardening I did was look out at what I have to do , I think it is so cold I was not this cold in the big snow.

JoanG JoanG 16 January 2013 21:18:43

Well done and it all looks so tidy.

TerriShoos TerriShoos 17 January 2013 08:17:52

That looks great - it's good to start the year tidy even if it all runs away with you later!!

TheH (Hazel) TheH (Hazel) 17 January 2013 17:57:03

I reckon we have been spoiled this winter with the mild weather so it is a real shock when the wind turns to its "normal" cold easterly! I reckon you can't beat the ski-gear and warm socks - the kikd of work in the garden this time of year is guaranteed to have you roasted in no time :-D Great bit of work there Ruth and Henry!!!

Scrubber Scrubber 29 January 2013 10:14:46

Yes a day like johnstown does really set you up! If only the weather would now give us a break!

Dick Dick 31 January 2013 14:10:58

I'm afraid I have done very little Ruth, since Johnstown. I had done quite a lot on the rose beds before that when the weather was quite clement but with frost, then rain and wind, I find it difficult to get any gardening worth while done. Although February arrives to morrow and we tend to say the spring is here it will be cold but one can see the increase in the length of the days.

Ladybird Ladybird 10 January 2013 22:21:32

They are not supposed to be hardy but last year l left one outdoors and brought one in and both survived!

Joann Joann 10 January 2013 23:50:14

Lovely!  I cant believe the Rhodochiton is still blooming outside, mine is blooming still in glasshouse but there is no way it would be still alive outside

TerriShoos TerriShoos 11 January 2013 08:00:38
