My garden

16 March 2016 16:29:54

Tried to upload an album of my garden in its raw state after the winter. It's not happening though. So I'll post a few here now.

Jacinta D Jacinta D 16 March 2016 16:34:40

Well done, Gretta. That looks great. Sometimes the site is affected by small glitches. But they're sorted out in time. Posting albums becomes easy the more you do it.

As usual had a lovely day with Jacinta in Ratoath garden centre. All very well-maintained.Not very au fait with my camera still but with my technical expert hovering over my shoulder like a hawk how could I NOT do yet ANOTHER journal without posting a photo. So here we go - lovely expanse of bamboo in Ratoath today.

accsean accsean 15 March 2016 22:42:04

Evening Greta, i am not a bamboo fan or maybe am ignorant about them but that is an impressive display.

Jacinta D Jacinta D 15 March 2016 22:56:34

Loved the comparison in colour of stems to foliage.

Greta I always enjoy a visit to Ratoath - a good place for a garden get together I always think when I am there and the coffee shop is lovely.I am a bit nervous of bamboo and so have always shied away from planting in the garden lovely picture and glad you enjoyed your day out - good weather for it.

Spring has sprung

23 February 2016 15:19:46

Great day here in Trim today and for once no wind just sunshine.Finished a bit of pruning that since Autumn..had been left. Made a spring basket with Primroses bought from Lidl and planted the last two Hippeastrums I had kept tilllast to keep them going for as long as I could Did another corner of the conservatory. It had been badly affected by wooly aphidso needed a good cleaning and diinfecting.Fortunately I was able to stop the spread. I have three Campsis red orange and yellow.I got two in France last year and one in plantegen at the sale. I was not sure if i could overwinter them but thankfully two of them have little shoots so I'm confident the last one will sprout soon.

Jacinta D Jacinta D 23 February 2016 16:16:26

Oh, I'm off to see if there's any growth on mine.

Gorgeous day in Dublin too. Let's hope it lasts a while. I could do with a couple of baskets to cheer up the garden right now. Thanks for mentioning it. Maybe I'll get some bedding tomorrow.

Jacinta D Jacinta D 23 February 2016 16:17:52

No growth on mine. Should I have cut it right back to soil level?

Gracedieu Lass Gracedieu Lass 23 February 2016 17:29:06

A lovely day here too Greta. You have been a busy woman today. Would love to see how a flower arranger plants up a spring basket. Any chance of a photo.

Sounds like you had a brilliant day Greta. Isnt it just gorgeous weather! Unfortunately I couldnt get out today, but hopefully tomorrow. I saw gorgeous Primroses in Lidl today too but I didnt buy any!!!

JoanG JoanG 23 February 2016 20:50:59

You made the most of your day Greta.  Well done on getting the Campsis going, they are beautiful plants.

Doing well

Bought this lovely Cymbidium after it was finished flowering 5 yrs ago, at a reduced price in SuperValu. It has done nothing since. Gave it the hot/cold treatment to no avail. This time last year I noticed a flowering stem. I was so excited I brought it in to the warm conservatory and it has gone from strength to strength, even producing a 2nd flowering stem. Very good value at a mere €6, I would say.

All washed out

25 August 2015 18:43:54

No gardening done today as the rain pelted down. It stopped for a short while at about 5.30 but now as I write this journal it has just started off again. The flowers are starting to wane a little nowbut there are still a few remaining ones to flower    in my garden anyway. It seems tobe quite cold where I am but better late than never.was going to take some slips today but the weather put pay to that.

Jacinta D Jacinta D 25 August 2015 19:07:32

It was a dry morning here while doing my errands. But rain appeared from about midday and hasn't let up since then.

Plenty of time for cuttings, I reckon.

Michelle finn Michelle finn 25 August 2015 21:10:34

it rained all day until about 4 then the sun came out and out i went its awful when you have things planned and all ready to go and then it rains and doesn't know when to stop
