Busy time of year!!

Well as the title says it is a busy time of year for us!! have planted up 28 bags of spuds so far!! have nearly finished potting on the toms, and we are about 1/3 of the way through potting on the onions, all the chillies and peppers are potted on and are looking good, also picked the first of the rhubarb last weekend, delicious!!! will put up a list of the tomato varieties when i get achance!!

Dave, are they all in peat pots? That must cost you an arm and a leg. At least you can re-use the plastic ones?

Gosh you have been busy alright....Im just looking at the picture of your rhubarb.....Im told what I have in my garden is rhubarb but I seem to have big CLUMPS at the base of the plant not in soil.....as in molehills I suppose...just wondered if thats 'normal'

I think theyll come on whenthe weather improves Jackie. We cant all have Dave and madeleine's expertise-and HARD WORK and ENERGY and there was I being smug that my beds were roughly dug!

Moya, i wish!!! thanks folks, Jacinta, there is a euro deals shop in the Ilac that was selling the peat pots for €1.50 for 25 pots!!! so €6 per 100!! not to bad!! only bought 200!!

Tomatoes

As usual my discipline regarding the amount of varieties of toms i grow each year has gone out the window, again!!! i recevied a batch of 10 varieties from a friend in Poland, 3 of which id grown before, but i just had to try the other 7!!! so thats 32 varieties this year!! and thats definetly it for this year!!!!!!!!

dave instead of chillipepper we will have to come up with some thing else that is some amount of tomatoes and potatoes. there will no rumbling tums in that house

Wow Dave, you are always great at growing a wide variety of tomatoes and with your own special micro-climate you should have lots of success as usual.

Put up a list of the varieties at some point. lol

Planted the first veriety of our early spuds today, Rocket, planted 6 bags, all our early spuds will be grown in bags, 30 bags in total....

Are they in drills, or potato bags? I know. Stupid question. Is it not a bit early for planting? Hope you can cover them with this frosty weather.

Ive got some chitting atm. Duke Of York for bags, Sarpo Mira for outside.

Hi Liam, had them chitting for about 4 weeks, Rocket, Duke of York, Sharpes express and Orla for bags, Roosters and Pink Fir Apple for the ground........

Hi, Jurga, yep you cant beat them, will be planting up 30 bags with early and second early spuds and will be planting 52 tubers in the ground!

are lemon trees easy to grow. today is my first day in my enormous under achieving garden, i need to focus and plant something that i can be proud of, would you recommend a lemon tree, i love lemons :)

Hi Sheebamay. Lemons are tender so not for growing outdoors.

Compost bins

I managed to get the compost heaps turned during the week and was delighted with the results!! all ingredients have composted down fully to give us plenty of compost for growing our tomatos and early spuds in!!

That compost looks almost good enough to eat. Bins are looking really great.
