My garden is consuming all my time at the moment,i have been working on it non stop when weather permits! My biggest problim is salt laden winds coming in from the sea which is burning my plants! Im hoping that the trees and shrubs will adapt to their surroundings ,i have also planted an escallonia macantra hedge around the boundary, which is a good variety for coastal areas.Im putting up a few photos that i took today, but please bear in mind the garden is stilll in its infancy and very exposed!

Tina you have achieved so much in such a short space of time - It looks from the photos like a very large site how big is it? I took a deep breath when you mentioned escallonia as our entire boundery hedge was destroyed in the two bad Winters but looks like you have picked a hedge suitable for the climate you have.

I echo Monica's wow. Lot of very hard work in evidence. Escallonia good choice for salty air. The shingle effect should work well as you are near the sea arent you? Its a very healthy looking Infant!

That looks great and I have just looked at your photos,  all look great after all your hard work.

Gosh Tina, you've achieved an awful lot in a year on a big site and it's looking really well, some of the plants are well filled out.  Well done you.

TinaJ TinaJ 11 June 2012 23:35:32

Glad you enjoyed the day, saturday was quite breezy

Saltees islands is wonderful for a day out

Did you try out the see food in the village?

andyf7 andyf7 11 June 2012 23:41:16

no tina we were back in at 5.15 and with over a 2 hour drive, and at that stage in the

lashing rain, it was time to head for home, as i had other plans that evening too, i was

told by a nice guy on the kilmore quay stand in bloom, that the crazy crab was great for

seafood dinner. had a great time even though the weather was not the best, but i got

some very good photographs even without the sunlight.

I feel for you with the salt laden winds I guess if you have a wind break planted in time it will soften the blow.. saw that lady on GW recently with the seaside garden said it took until the larger windbreaks were up for other stuff to thrive..

Jacinta Jacinta 12 June 2012 05:50:41

Great results, Tina. You have lots of colour and plenty of space for everything to grow properly. Great photos.

TinaJ TinaJ 12 June 2012 07:44:07

Bill ,great advice, but  i have no patience, its full steam ahead with me,lets hope some of it will thrive and it all wont be a waste of time.I got great advice from Harry Deacon about my conditions,he told me to concentrate on watering my trees and shrubs in dry windy weather and to mulch.

Thanks Jacinta.
