Fatsia - One of the plants going into the edge of the Bog garden

Hello all I have not been on the site much lately but just spent the last hour catching up with all your journals.

We have been very busy getting our bog garden ready behind the ponds - Gerry had the mini digger hired last week and he got all the roots of the trees finally out. The ground was then levelled and today the first of four bog gardens was dug out - liner and hose put in and hole refilled with soil enriched with some well rotted compost.

We were in Dublin last Saturday night for a reunion and on the Sunday we took a drive up to Mount Venus but unfortunately it was closed so on our way home (to Longford to pick up kids from Granny's ) we went to O'Mearas in Mullingar - I was thrilled to get quite a few of the plants that I had on the list for the Bog garden

The list of plants include

Astible Fanal

Iris "yedo Yoman"

Iris "Butter and Sugar"

Hosta "Big Daddy"

Dryopteris Affinis Cristata "The King"

Gunnera

Cornus - Midwinter Fire

Cornus Alba "Sibirica Variegata"

 Zantedeschia aethiopica "green Goddess"

These will hopefully be planted in tomorrow -

I must put up an album of the work to date.

Look forward to seeing photos of your new bog garden and ponds. Can I ask what colour the Verbascum is that you left here and how tall it grows as I am trying to find homes for plants in waiting.

What a shame Mount Venus was closed. I though this weekend was its final weekend. The Bog Garden will be great. You just need some Sarracenia!
