Ah thanks very much everyone I was not expecting such a reaponse I have a great right hand man who has been so good whilst I have been out of action - We also depend heavily on mulch which really cuts down on the work.Every time we plant something new we try and add in as much organic matter as we can in an effort to keep improving the soil. Rachel we were lucky when we moved here that there was a lot of mature trees and we have created beds underneath them which give me the opportunity to plant a lot of woodlanders that I am very fond of
