Rose: Variegata di Bologna

Rose Variegata di Bologna

Rose Variegata di Bologna

This rose was bred in Bologna, Italy - hence the name.  According to the books, it likes a North facing wall.  I was sceptical as a north facing wall in Italy is probably warmer than a south facing wall in Ireland.  But I put it on a north-west facing wall, in moisture retentive soil.  It is thriving.  It looks like raspberry ripple ice-cream, it smells divine.  Only disadvantage is that is does not repeat flower.  What is rare is wonderful!

That is an unusual rose, and great that it has thrived for you. Nice to see photos of your garden too, all looking lovely.

That one is a little too much for me ;(

Good to hear from you, great talking to you at Bloom short and all as it was, hope all well.

Mairin, just having a look at your album. You have made quite a transformation  on your garden since I saw it. Absolutely ADORE your water butt. Where did you source it? So much nicer than those horrid plastic ones, of which I have two.

And your little tool shed up by the house seems to be missing also????

This wouldn't be for me either. Not big into roses. But I do love your photo album. You have your garden looking so well. Love all the wood too!!!

That's the most unusual rose iv ever seen!! It's stunning it almost looks like tie-died crumpled silk, best of luck with it :)

That is some rose, Máirín. I have never seen anything like it. While I have about 100 rose bushes, I still have to have one like that.

Hi Jacinta,

Check out www.rainbarrels.ie for the water butt.  They are a company based in Wicklow and have been at Bloom for the last few years.  Well worth the extra few euros as they are a feature in themselves.    The garden shed is still with us - up at the back wall beside the plant storage area.  Look carefully!

I'd love one of those. I'd better starting thinking about what I want on this years' 'Santa' list. Oops!  I've said a curse!!!

Your shed has been very cleverly incorporated down at the back. It fits in there perfectly!
