leafless hydrangea

i have a couple of hydrangeas that have no leaves at all but which are green under the bark. i've watered and fed so i'm waiting to see if they leaf up at all or not. any advice?

Welcome back, Alan. That sounds strange that there are no leaves yet. But where there's life, there's hope. Green stems are a good sign.

Are they mature shrubs? I have three I planted as small plants last year and they are only barely coming in to leaf. If they flowered last year did you leave the flowerheads on to protect them through the winter?

thanks all

they are only a year old. they were in flower and i didnt prune at all

i've watered and fed once only so i hope the green stems will sprout soon
