Back to a little gardening to day

04 November 2010 17:12:44
What abnormal weather, temperature which would please one in early September  but little or no sunshine, high humidity and no shortage of rain. Tuesday and Wednesday, I tried to do something in the garden. To day I called to Woodies to get items for the garden. One item was Arabis which went into the rockery and the other was moss killer for the drive. While the Arabis went down the moss killer will wait until later. While I was waiting at the check out, I noticed several Phalaenopsis at I think €7.99, very good value. I paid €13 plus in Lidl some time ago for the same type of orchid. I didn't buy but if I did I would have got 10% off. At home, with plenty leaves on the lawn, I got my rake out and worked on them for some time also on concrete paths. Then a short interval with light rain and out again to do a bit of pruning of the ash trees in the small lawn at the back. I got most of one done and retired, hoping to finish this work to morrow.

Dettol is a great killer for moss, but stinks a little. I have a lot of leaves too, but if I rake them up, there is just as many tomorrow, so I wait till nearer the end of Nov and get them all. Keep up the good work Dick.

At least you were able to achieve something! Far too wet here for gardening-water lying on top of ground.

Thanks Brian. I will think of that in the future but for the present, I will try out the Moss-Clear which I bought to day.

Periwinkle, The soil type here is such that the moment the rain stops, one can get working at the garden no matter how much rain we had.

There must be something in the air. I got out for a bit today too but it is very wet underfoot. And the leaves...

It was very hard to do any gardening today.... I was planting my daylilies and it was raining non stop... Even the birds didnt come to the garden today...and my cat all day on a fish tank at home...  :-)

I find I have to do the leaves a bit at a time, otherwise my back gives up. I have an electric blower/vacuumer which I used both ways yesterday, not to mention gently kicking them sideways and anything else I could think of!

its great to be able to do something in the garden. nothing done in mine... can not take the rain anymore....

Dick Dick 04 November 2010 22:33:05

Clara, you say I have a lot of energy. I suppose it is because I have not got the weather to use it:)

Martin, you say you need a load of stones for the driveway. While I have a fair amount which I get from time to time from the garden, I am afraid I will not be able to get them to Dromin:)
