ash trees

ash trees

After a sunny day yesterday and frost last night, going out at about 8.40 a.m. the frost was gone and the sun shone. I took a few photos at about 11 showing the ash trees I pruned yesterday. Periwinkle enquired how I would prune the trees without a chainsaw. You can see for yourself now. They are pruned every year in November at once the leaves have fallen and like the trees you would see  at the side of a road in a suburban area. I also took probably the last photo of the liquidambar.

Jeepers, Dick, you certainly keep them in trim. I have ash along the boundary of the garden but they are about 50 feet tall and pruning is not an option though I did remove some of the lower side branches which were arching over the garden and causing too much shade.

Hello Paddy, These ash trees came up naturally. When they reached between six and seven feet, I cut the tops off at about this time of year with a saw. Later on they sent out shoots and year after year I have pruned them back in November.

Dick,

With a line of ash trees on the boundary of the garden, I could very easily have a garden full of ash trees if I didn't weed them out each year as there are always hundreds and hundreds of seedings, something which is a nuisance each year.

looka good Dick. i like trees been trimmed to shape. Its great idea for us in the future not to let the trees grow too big in the garden.

Now I know you are Liga Plata:) These ash trees were blown in the wind. I prune them back every year in November. The ash tree means a lot in Ireland. The hurleys used in our national game are made from it. I am a member of a hurling club.

Neat & tidy for the winter.

When my greenhouse was erected in 2001, the clothes line which went from the house to a tree at the back of the garden was in the way so I moved the clothes line to go from one tree to the other.
