More Yuccas

More Yuccas

Most of the day was taken up (1) cleaning a heather bed in front of the house. It was in a bad state with grasses and weeds mainly vetches. (2) cleaning around two large Yuccas one at each one of the heather bed. What did I find a large number of offsets around the Yuccas. There were at least eleven around one. As I said earlier, three members got Yuccas from me. Now there are enough for  twenty if they are interested.

I got 3 big ones when I cleared my Yucca a few weeks ago. One was about 2 1/2 feet high!! The other two about 2 foot. Just goes to show you that I dont clear up too often LOL :-)

Oh so many people got rid of their Yuccas after this last winter and if they waited they would have little ones now.

Dick Dick 08 August 2011 21:39:41

Clare, my Yuccas are hardy and withstood the last two winters but in addition these offsets come up from time to time.

Yesterday I was at the Hurling Club and had a look at two Yuccas there. One is in bloom, I will take a photo of it to morrow. The Yuccas there are a different variety. The Yuccas I have in my garden I got first from my landlady in Carlow. She gave me some offsets for my parents' garden in Mallow about 1970. When I built my house here my father gave me two offsets from his. Now I have supplied offsets to a large number. The ones in the Hurling Club to my knowledge, I bought here in Carlow.
