Nicotina still in flower

Nicotina still in flower

Nicotina still in flower

We all know how mild it's been and the poor plants don't know what time of the year it is.  I have a climbing rose full of bud ready to flower if the weather stays mild like this.  I usually do Nicotina from seed and I have one that is still in flower, every other year they have been rotten to the ground by now.  Back in October I bubbled wrapped the greenhouse and if there is any bit of sun out, it's snug as a bug in a rug in there.  Annual begonias are still in flower in the greenhouse also which gives a lovely summer feeling when I give a bit of pottering around out  there.  Lots of herbaceous plants are showing growth but if we get bad weather I wonder how they will cope.  For now we can enjoy a bit of extra colour around the garden  that we normaly would not get at this time of year.

There is no doubt about the way we have been spoilt by the weather Una. To day there was a change, more sunshine but colder and we will have a few more cold nights. I have my roses pruned so no chance that they will give me any more blooms for a while.

I also wonder how the plants will fare given their early start.  Terrific weather in Waterford today.

I think there are a few more frosty nights on the cards for the next few days. And then temps are to rise a bit. WAHOO! The Nicotiana is a gorgeous shade of lilac, Una. Does it have a nice scent like the white?

Its Amazing to see flowers still in bloom at this time of year. Una is there only some colours that give off a nice fragrance? This is the first year that i've sown them so I'd like to keep the scented ones near the decking area.

Unfortunately not scented so won't be doing that one again but will do the scented variety this year. Weather has been very mixed around the county today

Una, there is no doubt about the special weather we have had. You probably saw in the RTÉ news about the snowdrops and daffolils in bloom at the moment. According to Met Éireann, the soil temperature is well above normal and while it will get mild early next week, it will get cold and wintry later on. Did not one member of garden.ie mention daffodils in bloom some time ago?
