Garden jobs for the 1st of May.

Getting there,Sorbus [Mountain Ash.] in the main garden.

No rain has appeared yet,so no problems for gardening.The emphasis for me will be on the vegetable garden in the afternoon.First off though,time has been spent doing some wedding on the rose bed in the main garden,from about 8 am this morning.In a short while i hope to get the grass cut,and the top hedge given a trimming.

In the afternoon it will be straight to the vegetable garden.Some of the beds in the middle area need a light hand weeding.In the legumes beds all canes will be given a check on,to make sure none have been moved.The tunnel will get a sweep out,and the table a washdown.Those are my plans for today,weather permitting.If our friend the rain calls back,then all time will be spent among tunnel and greenhouse.

Is Sorbus slow to come into leaf this year? I have three mountain ash saplings in the front garden (the one in the middle looks dead!) and a 'Joseph Rock' which are only just budding.

I wish I had your energy at this time of the morning John. I'm going to cheat and go down to the farmers market in Carlow town and see if Alex has any new veg plants. I got some Lettus that was a bit further on than my own last week and some peas. I'm so far behind this year. Intend to take a few pics today and put in a journal report later. Looking foward to a good weekend in the garden.

Heavy showers here this morning so the hose can be put away for a while! Will do good if we get a bit of heat now. forecast for ground frost tonight.

So,did you all what was planed?I did nothing today,went for drive to see some garden,and ended in Johnstown g/c.And weather too was like...i don't know what,one minit sun another rain:))Do you have some flowers too?(i wont talk about marigolds:)))

I was a little worried about the Sorbus some weeks back Bizzyybee,but very different now.That picture was takes about a week ago,and a major change in the leaves with the speed of the growth with them now.Hope the good weather will improve all 3 for you in time,the one in the middle especially.

The morning would not be the same without a visit to the garden first thing every morning Ivor,[thanks] and spend some time there.Even if were only a few minutes.With the way the weather has been over the last few months,it is the only answer at times to get the few new veg plants.Eventually all will catch up despite been behind a little.If the weather would only come on our sides for longer.Hope all is going to plans for you in the garden this weekend.

Rain felt sorry for us here Periwinkle,and sent on a great day yesterday.Not a drop fell.And similar this morning.Still though,when i arrived home very late last night i spent time going around with newspapers over all the potato stalks.Any person that walked past probably thought i was strange,but it is all in gardening.

Got on very well in the garden thanks,Liga.Most of the jobs went as planned.No problems with weather.Hope you had a great day.I have begonias so far Liga,ready to plant out when the time is right,with other bedding plants etc to collect,sometime hopefully later today.[Thanks to the garden club for help with choices and names].I have vegetables and herbs ready to join them.

All went well thanks Wellie.When all goes to plan [most of it] the day is good.The weather is holding up well here today again and no rain,similar to yesterday.

Thanks for that John. I'm looking out the window at the moment and I think I see a bud or two on the middle ash - it's planted directly opposite the entrance to. a lane which is dark and enclosed with trees and hedging so I'd say the air in that spot is particularly cold
