A Sunday suprise for me.The Grow it mag.

A Sunday suprise for me.The Grow it mag.

Another cracker of a day for gardening.A few hours will be spent in the vegetable garden this morning, giving a tidy around and doing watering where needed, especially in the tunnel.Notes will be taken of temperature readings for both places.First off though all papers will be removed having been used as protection for the potato stalks from grass frost last night.Around 8am i collected the Sunday papers as usual, and along with them was the Grow it magazine for May.The  Sunday papers reading will be in second place today.Long may the Sunday morning sunshine last.I will get to spend an hour in the vegetable garden in the afternoon,no matter what time of the day on return.A special day though for for my Niece with her First Holy Communion, and will be enjoyed.Plenty more days of sunshine[we hope.]

Great to see that everyone had a good day John! I think you'll be using those newspapers on certain nights during the week. According to tonights weather, temps will be down to 2c with a possible air frost. Still no sign of consistently mild nights. We seem to be getting some cold nights every week.

Johnplotman Johnplotman 09 May 2010 22:24:04

All went well thanks,Liam.tThat does not sound the best about the weather.I covered all last night and will do similar tonight. The last few days has seen a great boost to growth with them.New baby stalks popping up everywhere. The mild nights are needed, and soon at that.We are now into the 9th of May,and the nights are more like mid autumn

Your roses look very healty,i was looking at mine tonight, and discover first flower bud:))

Johnplotman Johnplotman 09 May 2010 23:08:46

We had to be sure, thanks Liga. All i missed was the sight of a vegetable garden. The one area i wanted to see.I called to visit a friends vegetable garden on the way home and that made up for it.Apart from that though, the rest of the garden was most enjoyable.Flower beds still at the early stages but in a few weeks,be a different appearence.I spotted where two of the old Cordylines were removed [weather damage] down to about half way. Also a woodland walk way, boats,Lough Sheelin etc.

I saw boat with flowers in your album,,very good :))Sorry for vegge garden, but i hope next time you will see it:)

Johnplotman Johnplotman 09 May 2010 23:18:19

Thanks Liga.I have only about 12 roses and none have flowered just yet. Some of them touch well over 30 years old.In among the rose bed i have some chives.More of them are in the bottom area tubs, and one we call Archie [Arthur Bell] seems to be the most develoved of the roses here and will be the first to flower.

I have some more pictures to add to that album for there Liga.We all looked at the boat with the flowers, and it looked very well.I joked about the veggie garden to one of the ladies that served us,and about the lovely sea-weed near hand that was giving off Nit1 Phos0 and Potash10,and that it could be used in a vegetable garden there. The fun was good.
