Kohl Rabi doing well.

Kohl Rabi doing well.

Still more showers today. Not real heavy until app 7 pm.Then the haymaker of a shower fell. Some thunder along with that.Between 6pm and 7 pm the sun came out in very short spells. At least it was dry then.Managed to tie up the remaining peas and weeded the root crop bed for a short while.Checked out the tunnell and greenhouse for feeding of plants.Nothing else done outside tonight.

Love Kohl Rabbi.. Used to grow it in Dublin. Its a member of the cabbage family, is it not? certainly tastes like cabbage. This one almost ready for harvesting John. a bit more RAIN and it will be ready...

The day was fine here also Kitty.Kohl Rabi is a member of the brassica family [cabbage, broc, cauli, etc] It matures fast. The young leaves are boiled like spinach. The globes for soups, stews, etc.

Johnplotman Johnplotman 30 July 2009 23:32:06

You are fully correct Rita.it is a member of the cabbage [brassica] family.Just a short while longer and they will be ready. With this weather it might be a raincoat i will need before heading to the veg garden.

My veg garden is abyssmal - where did all the seeds go? I dug up my spuds and got two bags of red ones. The others are hovering - I have no idea when you dig them up but they seem pretty biggish. Some slugs inside but no black bits which is good. I envy your expertise.

With this weather Nadine, nothing more than plenty of problems in the garden.Potato blight, slugs, etc love it.With early potatoes they take app 12-13 weeks.Maincrop up to 22 weeks.Have you started the tubers by chitting or planted straight.Wait until the flowers open with earlies before harvesting,or once the foliage has turned brown and the stems withered with maincrop Slugs are every gardeners enemy.Today has been a complete washout.
