Weather still wins.

Tunnel reading at lunchtime today.

More Strange weather today.Around 7 am the roads were like a sheet of glass between snow and ice.At lunchtime today i took a quick check inside the tunnel and with the help of some cold sunshine it gave a reading at +11.Different outside though with some beds still like a large rock.When i returned this evening i took another check just to take note for the diary and it gave a reading of +1.Last night i spent up until close before 1 am in the seed room cleaning and checking over some garden notes for the past year.All going well i hope to look through some brassica [cabbage etc] seeds also tonight which will be started inside in the seed room during this month.The outcome for the potato crops here in Ireland,thanks to weather was evident on this evenings news headlines.Hoping for a better year.

+ 11? Wow that seems quite hot even inside the tunnel for the weather we are having. You must have been nice and cosy in there.

i didnt get into the tunnel today. doors froze but i was inside yesterday for a bit and i think my broad beans might have taken a turn for the worst. the young pea shoots is still looking fine but.

The weather is playing havoc for sure Paul.Hopefully it is not to severe on the beans.Your peas are defeating the bad weather.

It' just awful out outside but even inside is bad. I moved a thermometer to the 'cold end' of my kitchen window sill last night. I knew that one end was colder than the other but the other (warm end) measures 12-16 degrees as its night time minimum. I decided to see exactly what the cold end measures. I got the shock of my life - the 'cold end' measured 3 degrees last nigh. And I have orchids there!!!

Hello John, hope all is well for you, will be a while before those toms get out of the seed room at this rate! what temp do you keep them at? is there a chance they will come to quick if the weather stays bad! Happy New Year John and all the best for the growing season, great to see you get the recognition you and the Veg deserve, keep up the good work!!!!

I'm almost afraid to get back and see what the cold weather has done to the plants in the tunnel. I'm afraid I didn't provide protection enough for some of the rooted cuttings and overwintering seedlings. But, c'est la vie! Hi Dave,all is well here thanks.I will be waiting a while with this weather,that is for sure.The temp reading touches almost 15-16 degrees.Hopefully the weather will be defeated in time.Happy New Year to both you and Madeleine and good luck with all your growing for the new year.Good luck with your allotment gardening.Thanks again.

The weather is really cruel on all the gardeners Jools.While you are in the library Jools could you see if their is a way to defeat bad weather and all the garden enemies.Have a great New Year,thanks.
