R.H.S diary for 2010.

R.H.S diary for 2010.

The wind decided to pay an unwelcome visit today and still hangs around. The day has also been dry but the slight nip was back in the air.Did not get to enter the vegetable garden this evening, but had a quick walk around just after 5.30 with the help of the lamp. The legumes beds are next on plans for work in that area with tubs to be washed, the ends the of bamboo canes cleaned etc and some compost added to that area for use. That will be next on the list for earlie tomorrow evening.[all going well].Now that the vegetable garden is slowly taking shape for 2010 and the 4 way crop rotation all planned then for a few other evenings during the week time will be spent in the greenhouse.Time to spend some time now in the seed room and give the place a little cleaning.Got the R.H.S diary today and have to write in notes taken for the year so far.

What potatoes do you normally do, John?

Myrtle Myrtle 19 January 2010 20:23:20

With a cover like that on your diary you wil have to grow some flowers!

Clara Clara 19 January 2010 20:27:01

I got one last year for christmas present and could not find it as I had put it away with the decorations and found it when I went to the attic . I know it would not happen to you as you would be writing up every day happy gardening so early.

I managed to get to the RHS Chelsea Flower Show last year and vowed never to miss it again. It was an amazing sight to behold. I have already purchased my ticket and flight for 2010. I am also determined to get to "Bloom" for the first time this year, I hear it was excellent in 2009.

Johnplotman Johnplotman 19 January 2010 21:32:26

Jacinta i grow some Roosters,Duke of York,British Queens and Pinks. The Roosters have always been my favourite.

Jacinta Jacinta 19 January 2010 21:34:22

Ok, sounds good. I had Maris Pier, and Charlotte last year. I will wait and see what we get in during the week, or maybe next week.

Johnplotman Johnplotman 19 January 2010 21:46:51

They are also good brands of potatoes you grew last year Jacinta.

Johnplotman Johnplotman 19 January 2010 21:49:15

Myrtle, here we always grow the likes of Marigolds,Nasturtiums, for the veg garden and some others for the hanging baskets.

Johnplotman Johnplotman 19 January 2010 21:59:58

Clara, many a time the diary here would often go missing or where it would be left down etc,but the chart would always be then used so not to let anything slip up.

Johnplotman Johnplotman 19 January 2010 22:15:50

The Chelsea flower show is some place AOB with 'Bloom' another amazing place also.Sadly i did not make it to 'Bloom' in 2009.

Cloncaw Cloncaw 19 January 2010 22:40:44

Bitter day here and wind gusting around at the moment, was working with compost today and there are still chunks that are frozen. Will have to look out a diary or somewhere I have a garden plan book which I could use.

Johnplotman Johnplotman 19 January 2010 22:49:35

Sort of similar here Cloncaw but for about the last hour and a half its coming down in buckets.Nature will never be defeated.Soon you will be able to write down about the amazing heatwave all the gardeners will have.

Rachel Rachel 19 January 2010 23:54:11

From what I see of John's garden, he grows many ornamentals, including roses, but does no brag about them. Obviously veg are closest to your heart, John, but I am always delighted to see, as an aside, a photo of one of your ornamental beds. I hope to see you at Bloom this year. We will have to organise garden.ie get-togethers there on various days.

Mairin Mairin 20 January 2010 18:04:24

I got a large diary for work which has 5 columns per day and the day is divided up by the hour.  So I separated it up - 3 columns for work and 2 for the garden.

Johnplotman Johnplotman 20 January 2010 18:49:33

Thank you Rachel.Yes i love growing in the vegetable garden above all,but still like to be doing something in the main garden. If at all possible i will not be missing Bloom this year, and will be there.

Johnplotman Johnplotman 20 January 2010 18:53:53

You will be well ahead Mairin with your diary for all the garden plans.
