My fish friend.

My fish friend.

Spent an hour in the garden this evening from just after 4 o clock and took another walk around the garden to see about repairing some of the weather damage as much as possible.About 4 of the Phormium tenax got a right shake up with the bad weather and time will tell [pictures to add to album].For about 15 or so minutes i got to spend time in the vegetable garden to work out a plan for tomorrow. All going well from first light in the morning i will be working on the beds at the end of the veg garden. They are the second last group of beds that need weeding and feeding with our old friend the home made compost. On the way into the house when darkness fell i collected the cracked at the base fish tank[cleaned earlier in the year] to move into the seed room. Some more young seeds have been started and slowly taking shape.Since i found the old tank heading for a skip some years back it has been used every year and still going strong.

Great use for it. Makes a good job and tall enought to let things grow in it.

Great to be able to use things like that, well done.

Is there some hope that they will grow back ,i about Phormium tenax?

Johnplotman Johnplotman 22 January 2010 21:16:52

I dont know Liga, but am hoping for the best.Should i remove the bent sword-like leaves or do i wait a let them improve themselves. Will i be that lucky or am i fighting a losing battle again them.If all goes to all i can dig them up,remove the bad leaves etc.I hate having to do so with they been some of the first sown shrubs in the main garden.

The fish tank is a wonderful thing to have. That was a real gift finding that because they are very expensive. It would make a magnificent Orchid case or Nepenthes terrarium too, if you were ever interested in that : )

Pity I didn't thinkof your clever use for that fish tank. I held on to one for ages but in my big commitment last year to firmly de-clutter it went the way of the skip (cringe) along with many other 'I might find a use for this someday' items. Ah well. Glad to hear its working well for you. Maybe we should start a thread called 'anyone think of a use for this?...' Whatcha think?

Thanks Rachel.I was delighted to pick it up.Quite delighted.I almost could picture some seedlings inside it there and then.Maybe some day i will try one of the orchids, some day.I have just spent the last few hours looking at the GIY site. When i heard a group was going to start just about 10k from where i live left it very interesting. They have a meeting on Monday night in Ballinlough about that distance from where i live.I dont see anyone from the area where i live in on the page yet but maybe their could be now.Time will tell.We know the old saying, where their is muck their is luck.

Luck was on my side that day Earthmother for sure, thanks. If had some other members of the family come upon it they would have done similar to yourself. To me though, its like my left arm for use in the garden.Thats a good one about the 'Anyone thing of a use for this'.Go with the flow.

Earthmother I think your suggestion is very good.

Great idea, I am a hoarder and yes we find uses for everything. Great to see you are getting GIY near you and I would say you will be a great help to them as I have been to the 2 meetings here and you will enjoy it.

Johnplotman Johnplotman 23 January 2010 18:26:20

Thanks Clara. It will be very interesting.I sure i will know plenty of members from the areas that will be attending when i see them at the meeting, especially and they so near hand.It will be good.
