Summer time begins.

Sunflowers to single pots.[Details in diary]

Now that the evenings stay brighter and allow more gardening work to be done in the outer beds,hopefully some light sowings etc will get moving.Today was a bright day with spells of sunshine and no problem with weather.Missed out on another great get-together at Belvedere House.Not much was done today in the veg garden apart from walking around and checking plans.Spent an hour in the greenhouse moving on [pricking out] some Sunflowers,to single pots.All time after lunch was spent with visitors.This evening around 6.30 i had another walk around the vegetable garden and will spend time in the tunnel as planned this coming week working on the canes etc.No more other plans yet,except to spend time in the greenhouse also,as much as possible.Weather seems to be going to upset plans and time will tell.

The extra hour will make a big difference alright. Means i'll have a bit of time in the evenings for my own garden when i get home from work.

Do you have an area for the sunflowers in with the veg to entice the birds in or are they for the garden? I have 2 about the height of yours and 4 more planted. I want the children to see how tall they grow and how quickly.

Wish I had remembered the sunflowers, I might get some yet, I had them a few years ago and the grew enormous. Think I have a picture of my then eight year old daughter standing beside one monster and the birds loved the seeds when it was finished flowering so they're well worth another go I think, thanks for reminding me John, will post up the pic if I can find it!

Yes we have summertime now. Isnt it great, more time for the garden in the evening. The song says "Summertime, Wintertinme, Spring and Autumn too." It seems we are getting them all together. Haydn says in "The Seasons" "Come gentle Spring ..... but let us not rejoice too soon, here creep the dreary fogs again and Winter's icy hand, the buds and blooms destroys with chilling touch." Seems this is happening this year.

The sunflowers are for the veg, garden Mairin and to entice for sure.If anywhere in the outer tubs in the main garden,they will always have a vegetable near hand. Hopefully to encourage some young gardeners.Some of them [nieces] have names on them and similar to your young gardeners,to see how tall they grow and the speed for them..

Well put together Dick, for The Seasons. The lines are so true.This year is strange for sure.Checking this morning in the greenhouse,it is more like autumn with the temperature back to 3 deg.Cold is in the air.
