Bottoms up!

Bottoms up!

The last of the apples on the trees have been taken over by wasps, so much so that it is dangerous to even attepmt picking any that are still intact. The Discovery ones don't keep very well once picked so it couldn't be helped.  Next year I'll have to make a load of apple jelly. Its kind of funny seeing the wasps with their bottoms in the air as they demolish the apples, but obviously it wouldn't be funny to be stung. There were a couple of butterflies feeding on them too. I'm planning to head up to a little nursery at Fore today to get some heathers for some window boxes and go for a stoll around the lovely Fore Abbey.

I have had a lot of greedy wasps eating my apples too.. my poor 5 year old son got stung on his lip... will never forgive those wasps!  Not one wasp has survived being in my presence since!

You talk about apple jelly excuse my ignorance but is that the same as apple sauce?  Also while on the subject what is the difference between jam & jelly?

Una, Jelly I think is tradtionally made with crab apples - it is just like jelly and clearer than apple sauce. The main difference - not that I am an expert or anything - is that you strain the juice when making jelly then boil it up with sugar. With jam you don't strain it and it has a more cloudy consistency. That's as far as I know anyway. I did make apple and mint jelly once which was yummy but not in a few years. By the way, I can't believe you subject yourself to electric shocks to have a nice lawn - That's dedication!
