Fieldfare (oops, I mean Redwing)

Fieldfare (oops, I mean Redwing)

A different type of bird graced my garden today. This, I think, is the Fieldfare. Very like a Thrush, but with a pronounced eyebrow and russet markings just under the wing area.

Not a Fieldfare, but a Redwing! My mistake!

Also known as a red wing Jacinta.  Lovely aren't they, we had them here the last cold snap and last year was the first time I ever saw them.  We also had a Redpoll here recently. I think they provide great interest at this time of the year

When they came to us last year they spent 99 per cent of their time chasing all the other birds off even if they were no where near them

They are enjoying your hospitality, Jacinta. Lovely to see them.

Yes, Margaret. Last winter was my first time seeing them here too. Todays was the first for this winter. Don't know Redpoll. Must google.

Martin, they spent all day chasing away the Thrushes.

Hosta, just looking up birds. Fieldfare and Redwing are two completely different birds. The one above is, as you say, a Redwing. Learning every day. Thanks for that.

Would like to see a Redpoll now!

Haven't seen one yet this year. I do have several Redpolls though; they love the Nyjer seed.
