Let the plants speak for themselves!

Let the plants speak for themselves!

I only filled these shelves yesterday evening. Today it was manic in work. I stood back and watched. If these plants had been in the ordinary black pots, they would probably still be there come September. Why does it take a colourful pot to sell a plant nowadays!

P.S. See how nicely the shelves are painted!   :)

Beautifully painted shelves but I HATE the coloured pots. They're everywhere now.

You're just an artist at work, Jacinta.

Although very colourful, not sure I'm a fan.  Beautifully painted shelves though :-)

not every one is a gardener, so colour attracts the punter as opposed to those in the know.

looks mad but its fun.

No doubt the researchers have done their work, but like Rachel, I hate those brightly coloured pots! (Shelves are looking good!)

A good way to catch the eye of customers Jacinta. Will at the very least, make them take notice. Good painting job.

I don't have a problem with the coloured pots. People are going to take the plants home and plant them and reuse the pots I hope. The display looks good and the shelves look great.

I think we do need to get out act together re the environment and gardening. We use so much plastic etc. Recently I tried the bamboo pots but several of themhave split so don't know if they will fit the bill as a substitute.

Jacinta Jacinta 02 April 2011 22:26:56

That's good to get some feedback on those pots. I need to have recommendations. Have you seen the eco-friendly plastic pots? They are made by STEWART. Gotta say they don't look any different to the normal plastic pots. You'd wonder are they just trying to pull a fast one in saying they are biodegradable.

Moya Moya 02 April 2011 22:46:16

Haven't seen the ecofriendly plastic pots. Are they different from the bamboo ones?

Jacinta Jacinta 02 April 2011 22:49:04

The 'eco-friendly' ones are practically identical to the normal indoor plastic ones. WIll try and get a photo tomorrow.

saw the eco-friendly ones, agree with you jacinta, thought they were pulling a fast one, they look exactly the same as the ordinary ones.  Don't have a problem with the coloured pots, but anytime the kids are with me, they are always drawn to those first.

Red & yellow& blue & green colours of the rainbow probably would attract people to look at what's there and shelves look very good.

MartinB MartinB 03 April 2011 08:26:48

The shelves are well painted but the pots are ghastly. It is like a children's plant stall. I hope that this is not a new trend Jacinta.

BrunoCork BrunoCork 03 April 2011 10:24:32

It's definitely different.

I've re-used some red and lime-green pots by potting them up with house plants. We have a red and lime green theme in our living/dining room (think Ikea) so the pots work very well.

I love the coloured pots - when I re-use them I try to match the pot colour with what I'm planting! They encourage me when I'm impatiently waiting for things to flower .... but then I'm just a kid at heart!

Gravelgarden Gravelgarden 03 April 2011 12:01:55

the eco pot do rot, but it takes a few years. love the burst of colour. Not everyone knows what to look for so the pots will attract them to the area. Perhaps put perineals in one colour, herbacious border plants in another colour etc.......or pot colour according to price

A garden center in cork spends alot of time painting etc to encourage buying. and it works every year
