Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus 'youngii'

Eucalyptus 'youngii'

This was growing way too tall for my small garden and looked totally out of proportion. Steve cut the top 12 feet off a couple of months ago. New growth already and looking more in keeping with its surroundings.

Can you get a smell from it as the one in the garden next door has no smell I love it and the smell.

Clare I think the smell is stronger in hot weather.

I can't say I ever got a scent from it, I'm afraid.

Lost mine last winter, hubby cut it down and left the stump about 3ft, there are now shoots about 9" tall all around the bottom, not sure what to do with them all!

Fran there is a very big one down towards Bray and as we are walking we can smell it about 10 mtr. away, and after the rain it is amazing.

That's a great photo

I had two of them and lost both of them last winter. I think i lost so much was because my garden was planted in 2010 and they weren't established long enough.I think when you rub or bruise a leaf that's when you get the scent and you release the oil. It's really lovely.

I had a Eucalyptus but the cold weather hit it. Perhaps if I were ti cut it back it might shoot from the bottom.

My neigbour needs to move hers as undermining wall.

Assuming it can be manhandled due to its height, is it a good time in September to move

Tony, if it's undermining a wall, it means the roots are under the foundations, which will make moving it very difficult. Oct/Nov may be a better time.

Good to see it thrive after it got the chop
