Alocasia

Alocasia

Not a whole lot to report today. Got very wet in work. I think the rain is here to stay, for the night anyway.

We got a delivery of houseplants in today. Has anyone any advice on the care of a plant called Alocasia? I have never heard of it before, or even seen one until today. I think the foliage is just amazing. And there was only one of them in the whole delivery. And very cheap. I didn't even need to reduce it. Ha ha. I just had to buy it.

8.45pm. Just been googling on this plant. It's full name is Alocasia sanderiana (Kris plant). It's an ornamental plant of the Araceae family and native to the Philippines. It's a tropical perennial and can grow up to 6ft in tropical areas. However, it remains much smaller here. What do ye think?

That is just gorgeous. Can't believe you got a gem like that for €1.99! You lucky sod. I bet it likes its leaves to be misted if it's from the Philippines, like for orchids (or nepenthes for that matter).

My God, Rachel, I am so delighted that it wasnt my day off when that delivery came in. I get really excited when I discover some new plant. Have YOU ever seen one of those. Maybe I have been going round with blinkers on>

Well done you have an eye for good bargains, enjoy it as it is beautiful

No, never seen one of them before, Jacinta. I wonder why it's marked down because it looks in good health. You'll have to let us know how hard it is to care for. Have to laugh at Noel's slagging of you though : )

Ha ha yea, he's a rip.It wasnt marked down though. That was the price it came in at. I was just lucky, being there in the right place at the right time.

Sorry, Jacinta, I don't like that new plant at all. For €1.99, I think it's just about worth that. I know your other friends don't agree with me. I don't agree that you were lucky. I never heard of it before either. I wonder why does Rachel think it's so great. Peter
