Primrose Bank

Chionodoxa and P. 'Marie Croisse'

Chionodoxa and P. 'Marie Croisse'

is really taking shape now. It's planted up with mainly primroses, but also cyclamen coum and hederifolia, scilla, iris siberica, miniature tulips, pulmonaria, tete-a-tetes, sedum, fritillarias, I could go on. Pretty cramped at this stage (story of my life). Chionodoxa is open this morning. It looks really nice beside primula 'Marie Croisse'.

I was wondering what was flowering in my cott gdn and now see it must be Chionodoxa after seeing your lovely photo.  Love the P. 'm.c.' too.  I found a lovely red species tulip under a tree down near the front by my drive-way.  Hard to photograph especially with my camera - first moan of the year re the camera................

Beautiful! Can you put up a picture of the entire bank? I'd love to see them all together.

Jacinta Jacinta 15 March 2012 08:12:29

Will do, Terri. But don't get all excited. It's only a 'small' bank for most people here. But at the moment that seems to be my only planting space until the last pond is done.

It's really pretty. I have a load of multicoloured prims in window boxes at the moment but will plant them out at the edge of the front border. We have a lovely bank of wild primroses along the fence too - you can never have enough, can you? I think we have plenty of cowslips in the lawn - lots of rosettes but no flowers so I don't think they're prims. Just what we need for the wildflower meadow!

Sounds Lovely Jacinata and I think sometimes pictures dont do some beds justice especially beds like this or alpine beds :-)

Thanks, y'all!  :) It WILL get better with time.

Really lovely Jacinta. Is this the area where the digging was done early on? I had thought that the two of you were going underground:)

Jacinta Jacinta 15 March 2012 19:45:52

Thank you, Dick. Yes, this area will be a bank of the new pond. Not going underground as such. Just a fibreglass cave in a dome shape placed on the bottom of the new pond, soil piled above it for planting. So the soil will end up even higher than the bank. Work on this area should be resumed by the weekend, hopefully.
