Working with what I have

Spirea 'Snowmound'

Spirea 'Snowmound'

The makeover for the front garden is going to be really unique (in my opinion, anyway). However, I am leaving a few shrubs and trees there for the backbone. One of these that I am happy to leave be is Spirea 'Snowmound' which is up at the front door. It is now starting to burst open with its snow white flowers. When this shrub is in full flower, the branches just droop with the weight of them. I love it. It just gets better and better.

I also think that, really our front gardens are not our own. We owe it to the neighbours to give them something nice to look at. And believe me, I have been very slow in providing them with something a bit different. Hopefully the wait will have been worth it!!

Jacinta, I love when you write about your front garden because I am in the exact same position. I do all the work in the back and side and the front has been neglected for years.

I am starting to work on it now and will put up a detailed journal on it.

I have Spirea as well - don't know if it is Snowmound but it flowers at this time of the year.

Is there a Japanese theme in the offing, with all that gravel and boulders?

It will look great, no doubt.  That's a lovely sprirea, the traditional plants are often the best.

No Japanese/Oriental theme going in the front, Rachel. This will be 'different'!

I HOPE TO GOD IT WORKS OUT!!!

"Different" sounds godd, Jacinta! I love Spirea too - one of the earliest of my shrubs to flower. Every garden I've had has had Spirea, Forsythia and Flowering Currant - I find they are a great cure for the Winter Blues! - just need to make sure the Flowering Currant isn't too close to the path!
