Cynara cardunculus (Globe Artichoke) is looking great at the moment. This has been moved from pillar to post in the last two years. It gets better and better each year.
OOh lovely mine seems to have rotted but is regrowing
i had two grown from seed but they are still very small and only a few leaves.
Looking forward to it looking like that
Its enjoying the sun!
The leaves are also very ornamental. Mine got too bg and i had to say goodbye but maybe I should have kept one on its own.
i really love the flowerhead, do you just admire them or eat them?
I just admire them, Andy. I don't think it's edible. But maybe I'm wrong......
wow jacinta that is fab, wouldnt mind havin that in my garden
Jacinta, it is a question of having your artichoke or eating it.
I have grown them for years and my children and grandchildren love to eat them. If they visit me when the flower buds are at the right stage, big enough but not just about to flower, I pick some and cook them for the family to enjoy and there are always one or two more buds on the plants which I can leave to flower.
Oh, good to hear, Janet. There are plenty more buds that haven't flowered yet. Might give them a try. I've never tasted artichokes. Thanks for that.
