Indoors for outdoors

What a horrible day outside today. Typical for St. Patrick's Day. But usually the bad weather only lasts for the duration of the parades.

However, Steve and I went over to Homebase. Stocked up on some things and bought my favourite annuals - Violas and pretty red Primulas. Just happened to 'find' some flower pouches in the garage that I had bought years ago when I worked in Homebase. It's amazing what I still find out there. I had plenty to plant up two of these pouches, and some left over for a planter. Gave them a good watering, and a diluted tomato feed. Will lie them flat in the greenhouse over the next week or so, so that the roots can spread out and grip firmly into the compost. Flower pouches are good as they don't tend to swing about in gales as would a hanging basket. So they're less likely to dry out.

Also bought some tomato plants. Wish I had some of Dick's healthy ones. But c'est la vie. Will pot those on tomorrow and begin to harden them off.

I can't complain to much about the weather today, but rain arrived about four. It is Friday so don't forget Gardener's World at eight. That is one of the great things about gardening, planning for the future. The violas are a lovely colour, so bright and fresh.

Oh yes Mary, thank you, it feels more like Sunday!!

Jacinta D Jacinta D 17 March 2017 19:36:56

Yes!  But I think I'll do my usual early-morning stint of gardening programmes on Sunday morning. Partaking in alcohol celebrations for now. :)

Well for you, Jacinta. I am after having a very dry Patrick's Day.

Jacinta D Jacinta D 17 March 2017 20:05:17

We've had a wet one, outdoors AND indoors. :)

One might ask is it St. Patrick's Day or just Friday? No special programmes on RTE for our National holiday. Whether you do gardening on St. Patrick's Day or not, surely after 6 p.m. outdoor activities would be out and RTE should have special programmes for our National Day.

No Irish programmes on tonight, Dick. Telly is so bad I have switched it off. Despite all the Gaelscoils that have opened in the last twenty years, there is very little Irish spoken nowadays.

Caithfimid cainte gaeilge go minic. I was always a firm believer of keeping in touch with our Irish origins. Can you imagine a Spaniard not being able to speak Spanish. The same goes for us.

I searched for gardeners world tonight but couldnt find it. As a dear friend once asked 'Am I tick or wha'?' Agus in onoir an lae caithfidh me rud eigin a ra as gaeilge, in onoir La le Padraig!

Bhi an 'remote ' agam areir agus chonaic me  Gardeners World ar an BBC Scrubber!

Jacinta, I'm going to buy some of those lovely violas tomorrow and chance them in a hanging basket. I can resist everything except temptation!

Gracedieu Lass Gracedieu Lass 18 March 2017 19:54:42

Peter, Gardener's World in on BBC 2 every Friday evening. If you have Sky TV you can record it and press series link and it will record for you every Friday evening. As Jacinta has said it is on Sunday mornings on BBC 1 early.

Jacinta, I am looking forward to seeing those in flull bloom.

My problem with Irish these days, is that I still see it in the old script and find it very hard to read this spelling.  And another thing is that the Donegal Irish is pronounced so differently.  I need to get my little 5 yr old grandson to coach me.  When I ask him, he just gives me a pitying look!
