Speaking of Marigolds!

Marigolds! Mmmmmmm!

Marigolds! Mmmmmmm!

Rachels journal last night about marigolds brought some brilliant smells back into my dormant brain. I would place marigolds, french or african, or tagetes high on my list of 'Must Have' smells in the garden (Maybe I was a snail or a greenfly in my previous life!). People, namely Steve and Zoe, think I am for the Looney Bin sometimes as they witness me drinking in their smell regularly during the summertime. I also adore the smell of geraniums, and tomato plants. Or homemade compost. Maybe this is a sickness. Hope it doesn't become an epidemic. No symptoms to watch out for I'm afraid. Just follow your nose....... :)

What smells turn YOU on in the garden?

Carnations, I have a real old plant from my Dads garden, that I have been nursing for years, it really came on last year, broke a stem off it the other day by accident,, so am trying pot 5 cuttings on rather than just loose them. It is a rea old style plant, going back to my grandparents time, the smell is so strong, you will never get it from todays plants. The smell to me is of pure childhood and great summers. We really are a different breed completely, us gardeners, I get the same looks here.

Can I be really boring and say roses and lilies? Obviously, you say. Mock Orange is amazing too. But I love all the smells you listed above except maybe the compost!

Yea lilies for me too. But I think a lot of people actually hate the smell of geraniums, tomato plants and marigolds. Maybe I am just weird!
