Jacinta D's Journal

Jacinta D's Journal

A waiting game!

Each time I post a journal, I wonder will it be my last. Looking forward to having something more user-friendly and preferrably a site that will upload photos properly, be they portrait or landscape mode, from all devices. I will always favour a laptop. It's so sad to see so few journals being posted. I think a lot of members have already given up on this site, which is a real shame.

Alstromeria 'Indian Summer' is still in full flower today, even after the bad weather.

I havent posted regurlary in months but I do often wonder like you is my last journal actually my last journal on here. The site used to be hopping when I first joined. People posting journals all day and I used to look forward to coming home from work to read them all and see all the different peoples plants and gardens and everyones different ways of doing things. Even if something went wrong in the garden, it lived through all of us like a big family that we all encouraged each other to get up and go at it again (Facebook does not have the spirit), I lose more hope everyday that they will fix the site and I'm starting to believe they won't and will be left to die. I will try better to post but just 3 or 4 changes to this site could make all the difference but I fear it might be too late now.

A lot of great characters have already been lost from this site, Peter. But then, we still have lots of great people here. So hopefully, we can gang up, and let 'them' see that we won't go down without a fight. Or......we stick with it until the end. :(

Agree with you both, here is where we all met and many friendships formed.  We have been told the site is being upgraded; it would be helpful to get a progress report and that might just keep people here in the meantime.  Gorgeous alstroemeria Jacinta.

Had an update from Craig recently. The new site is still under development and they are doing what they can to solve our dificulties with the current site. As someone who worked in development in a past life, trust me, it is better to have to wait for the software to be properly tested and as many of the glitches ironed out before it is launched. Too often developers of websites are in such a rush to get online that they launch half-finished sites that just frustrate people.

In the meantime, isn't it great when you put up a journal and your friends comment - or you see a journal from a friend and can trace back through their previous journals to see how their garden is developing! Facebook is hopeless for that kind of continuity!

Keep posting guys! It will soon be time to start planning the Get-together after all!

I am going to keep putting up journals and making comments on other journals. I think it is a great source of information on plants and events that are happening in gardening. Also, we have a community of gardeners, which is a very hard think to find these days.

I will keep coming but it is a long time since we were promised an update!
